5.0 out of 5 stars Anointed Songs for This Season
I thank God for bringing this GREAT rebirth to Kirk Franklin! I am certain that his testimony is what each of us hear in the lyrics and melodies of these songs. As you listen to these soulful songs, listen to them within yourself! You will then find that there may be a kinship with Kirk Franklin's love for God that you and he share!
The nickname for this project...

3.0 out of 5 stars Some great tunes, but too much talk
I don't buy CD's for spoken word. And yet this one is replete with it, and a lot of interludes instead of the songs that are his strength.

If he wants to preach--that's fine, but I didn't pay my money for that.

Some terrific songs on here, but also some that aren't nearly as well-crafted, so that's why I think this collection is a mixed bag.

The nickname for this project is "The Church Project" and it fits! The guest Gospel artists present their gifts before the Lord on this project in the true spirit of worship and praise!
Bishop T. D. Jakes adds wisdom and a great seasoned voice to the dialog he and Kirk employ. This song ministers to the pain, fear and aimless wonder of those desperate for answers of peace from God.
If you love Gospel music filled with the presence of God, invest this CD, tape and (I believe) soon coming video into your life and those whom you love! You will be blessed prosperously for it!

5.0 out of 5 stars One Kirk Franklin's classics........, March 20, 2002

This review is from: The Rebirth Of Kirk Franklin (Audio CD)
I noticed over the last few years that my man Kirk came under tremendous fire for his fushion of Hip-Hop sound and R&B artists into gospel music. But contrary to what others believed he has gone back to the basics. On, The Rebirth Of Kirk Franklin, he reinvents himself and his sound. The entire album is live with the exception of one track. However one element that stayed the same is Kirk's writing skills and style. The opening song, Hosanna, has such a powerful sound to it. It is upbeat, but highly annointed. This trend continues throughout the album, and the guest appearnces by a variety of Gospel and Christian artists including, Richard Smallwood,T.D. Jakes, Shirley Caesar,Crystal Lewis and DC Talk, adds diversity. This album contains all of the trademarks Kirk has developed throughout his ministry, and shows us he can't be stopped with God as his inspiration. I know you will love this album as much as I do, so pick it up. It's a CLASSIC.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, September 5, 2002
This review is from: The Rebirth Of Kirk Franklin (Audio CD)
I bought this CD a month ago, and I must say that from time to time, I sing some of the songs on there. "Looking Out for Me" is one of my favorites. i had an experience when I knew that the Lord was truly looking out for me, and when I got home, I got out that CD and played it. I know that He does truly look out for me. Other personal favorites are "Always", the part where the children are praying is so precious,"Our God is an Awesome God" has always been a favorite, and this version is phat. "A Brighter Day" is another favorite. I feel this is probably Kirk's best to date. Not to discount the others which were just as good. But I tend to feel that he is going in another direction with his music and this is so good. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Return to Roots on Rebirth, February 18, 2003
This review is from: The Rebirth Of Kirk Franklin (Audio CD)
Oh. My. Gosh. That was my first thought after hearing this extraordinary album from an artist I've long admired. Expecting a great album often leads me to disappointment, and favorite artists tend to turn out sub-par albums at an alarming rate. But while "Rebirth" is quite different from my favorite Kirk Franklin albums like "Nu Nation", "God's Property" and "Kingdom Come" it is a wonderful album, which oozes with greatness. I never gush over an album, but this is one to buy. From the jubilant first track "Hosanna" to the last notes of the rock-rap hidden track "Throw Yo' Hands Up" with Toby Mac, every song leaves the listener blown away. Kirk returns to his traditional gospel roots on most of the songs like "Caught Up" with Pastor Shirley Caesar "Looking Out For Me" with the late Willie Neal Johnson and "Brighter Day". But there is some of Franklin's trademark innovations, like the spoken word "911" with Bishop T. D. Jakes and the multi-ethnic "The Blood Song" with Latino diva Jaci Velasquez, Crystal Lewis and Donnie McClurkin. The slow and tender piano ballad "Don't Cry" and He Reigns (the medley)'s reggae beat with Papa San, which features Rich Mullins' "Awesome God", are another example of Franklin's commitment to preaching gospel focused tunes.

Bottom Line: A rebirth worth attending to.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you don't have this CD...what are you waiting for?, March 26, 2005
By
This review is from: The Rebirth Of Kirk Franklin (Audio CD)
After 3 years, this CD is still amazing. You would think that time would make this CD less likely to be my CD rotation, but when the anointing is there, there's no denying it. Kirk Franklin is a genius, and it is truly evident in this release.

He stars out strong with "Hosanna", a song that will have you singing right along with the choir. Other gems such as "He Reigns" and "My Life, My Love, My All" punctuate the CD, making it well worth the purchase, but it is my absolute favorite song "Don't Cry" is what keeps my coming back. The power and passion behind the choir is evident as the song builds to its climax.

I truly believe that anyone who takes a good listen to this CD will not only be changed, but will go through a rebirth of their own.

I used to love Kirk Franklin's music when I was growing up. Everybody used to sing it in their church. However after "Revolution" I lost interest in Kirk's music. I felt that his music lost its substance. Then I heard "Hosanna" on the Stellar Awards. Some friends of mine were like "I don't like Kirk's music". I was like hey wait a minute this song sounds good. A few months later, I was on my way to Tennessee and my cousin let me hear a couple of songs on the album. Needless to say....the rest is history. This, I believe, is one of Kirk's best albums to date. "Brighter Day" is awesome. "He Reign's" will definitely become a church anthem. "Looking Out For Me" is great also. The slower tunes will have you worshipping God regardless of where you are. "My Life, My Love, My All" reduced me to tears and I don't cry on just anybody's song. Does "Running Back To You" ring a bell. That's still the only song that made me cry the first 30 times I heard it(maybe because I was doing wrong). This album was wonderfully written and produced. Kirk you did a knockout job with this one. I know the songs came from a broken heart, because God sends trouble to draw us closer to him. You should read Kirk's story in Gospel Today to get the story behind the music.

5.0 out of 5 stars KIRK FRANKLIN IS BACK!!, April 23, 2002

This review is from: The Rebirth Of Kirk Franklin (Audio CD)
Some time ago I became very disenchanted with the music that was being produced by Kirk Franklin. This is not said in a manner of down playing his talent, but as a church musician, I always look for music that I consider appropriate for church worship. A lot of what Kirk was putting was not appropriate for my church. But this CD, "THE REBIRTH OF KIRK FRANKLIN" is simply awesome. I vowed I would never buy another production of Kirks until I heard the CD during a pre-easter rehearsal at my church. The song "Don't Cry" which Kirk taught to a choir that I was in some 13 years ago in Savannah, GA was on there. This caught my attention. I said that I must add this CD to my collection. All I can say is KIRK is AWESOME!!!
