Very good,
This review is from: Rebirth (Audio CD)
This album really rocks. It is a combination of Metal and techno. The sound is very good. The songs are heavy as hell. Overall this is an album that will grow on you. And check out pain's new album "Nothing remains the same". That record is even better than this one

A rare gem that resonates loud speakers and bad girls.,

Pain as you may well know is Peter T?gtgren's Industrial Metal side project. Peter is the lead vocalist and guitarist of well known Death Metal band Hypocrisy, a superb band with powerful songs and disturbing atmosphere. In contrast to Hypocrisy, Pain is focused more upon the melody over aggression. Peter no longer sings in grunted snarls, instead he sings normally but still with that trademark attitude people have grown to love. Pain is an excellent band that delivers the goods. They're still loud, pissed off, yet full of melody and atmosphere due to their masterful mixing of techno and brutal metal. Pain is different however when compared to other metal acts, their sound is very high pitched and resonates well. Very unique sound. Rebirth is a gem of an album that doesn't let up the brutality. Every song has its own unique blend of sound and the entire album is enjoyable. With ear shattering songs such as 'End of the Line' and 'Suicide Machine', Rebirth is definitely an album I recommend to fans of Industrial Metal. It's one of those rare albums that utilize your loud speakers to their fullest capacity. A great album for the ladies aswell, as they tend to get off on this sound like rapid fire. Naughty girls! Get this album folks it's a gem.

Something for all "Hard Rock or Metal" fans..,

Even though I've only known of the existance of Peter Tagtgren (lead singer of Hypocrisy, and Pain, and Metal album producer.) for just over two years now, I've become a devout fan of his work thanks to his truly unique sound. Like his other work with "Pain", the tracks on this album are a mixture of dark, almost hypnotizing "Gothesque" (Is that a word?) melodies, and hard and heavy skull-slamming metal. Tagtgren delivers the unique blend of pitch, that any fans of Pain recognize, on this album, and, like Mr. Zombie says, if you're a fan of dark industrial metal, you need a copy of this in your collection! If not for yourself, then for the sake of keeping Tagtgren's metal coming to those of us that love it!

Peter's departure from his death metal roots,

The first Pain album, while introducing synth beats, remained largely similar in style to its Hypocrisy with its sound. "Rebirth" represents Peter Tagtgren's attempt to develop his Pain project into something truly unique. While remaining dark and gloomy, the music has been restructured to place the synthesizer at the fore-front while the guitars take a back seat. The vocals are almost entirely clean, as a sharp contrast to the screams and growls of previous note. With the song "On and On," Pain foreshadows its current state, presenting more of a pop/dance rhythm. Lyrically, songs such as "Supersonic B*tch" and "Suicide Machine" present a much more human-faced struggle with life's hurdles than the death and destruction themes of Hypocrisy. This album is a turning point, as later Pain releases diverge further from Hypocrisy's musical and lyrical themes in their portrayal of man's ongoing struggle with life's obstacles. An experimental record, "Rebirth" is a rare example of diverse musical talent.

This was nothing I expected. I baught this album with sheer doubt and I was pleasently surprised. Pain is an original sounding Industrial Metal band. Well, in truth it's just one man..Pete T., of the black metal band Hypocrisy. THIS IS NOT A BLACK METAL PROJECT....just in case you got that impression. There is a heavy dose of electronica and the guitar style is much closer to Rammstein than it is to any of those bands from Norway. I like the songs "sHE wHIPPED", and bREATHING IN, bREATHING OUT" the most, but the whole album is good. If you like Industrial Metal than you will certainly not be dissapointed.

This Album is quite simply a metal masterpiece. One of the greatest albums i have ever heard. When I first listened to it I dident know what to expect, but after the first song had finished i couldent turn it off. If you are a fan of techno metal I highly recommend it to you.

More Industrial than some of the others, little more catchy song wise, and still nothing remotely close to HYPOCRISY...PETER is just having fun, and now that hes with BLOODBATH, and has new HYPOCRISY album on the horizon hopefully HYPOCRISY will come back to form again

It's a great mix of techno and metal! Sometimes more techno than metal. I also has a very dark and doomy feel. One of the songs, Dark Fields Of Pain is even pure goth-metal. All in all a good CD. Buy it!

It's always great when you get a band that does something that sets them apart from other bands in their respected genres. When you hear bands like Smile Empty Soul and Seether immitating bands like Nirvana, and Earshot pratically copying Tool, even if the bands produce energizing sounds (which they all mostly do), you start to question where alt. metal is headed, or if it is headed anywhere at all. Then, there are bands like this one. Musically, they mix alt. metal with a sort of gothic sound (kinda like Mushroomhead does; a much better band, by the way); and their sound is definitely unique. They deserve most of the credit for this. However, if you're looking for moving and powerful music, go elsewhere. Well, ok, they do have the capability to get some people to headbang some of the time. But something really bugs me about the band, and so I pose this question: what the hell happened to the bass? Either poor production or a really shy bass player; take your pick; metal is crap without bass. Also, and I'm no chord buff, but (especially on "Breathing In, Breathing Out) the dissonance created by many of their chords is just weird, and I think they were trying to be overly different from their peers when they wrote their music. Despite these pitfalls, I encourage anyone who is reading this to at least check these guys out; they do combine techno and goth with metal very well, and I know some people out there will like them.

Boring music,

Compared with this Hypocrisy is really a good band because this is not music, the guitarsound sucks and the drums sound like in a techno disco. There are no growls no melodies no clean vocals no songs no improvisations no intelligence just boring noise. After all I can say it's not worth the lines I'm writing here. One of the worst CDs I've ever listened to. If you like good music listen to Filter, Opeth, A perfect Circle, Tool, Edge of sanity!but not this
