4.0 out of 5 stars rebit - easy to use but problems with installation
Rebit is real easy to use but I had difficulty installing with a backup drive that had material on it. It took a very long time for rebit to move all the data on the disk to another drive.

2.0 out of 5 stars Be wary of Rebit, September 16, 2009
This review is from: Rebit Backup Software for Single PC- RSCD35000POS (Electronics)
I purchased the 3 PC version of Rebit in April 2009 after searching for an Apple Time-Machine like solution for my PC. As advertised, Rebit is easy to setup and get running. However, make sure you check the Rebit backup to ensure it is backing up all your files.

In my case, I found that Rebit did NOT backup my Outlook PST files. This is a big deal to me as most of my important data is actually stored in my e-mail.

I made 4 attempts to contact Rebit support before getting a response. Once I did get in touch with someone, they were courteous but not able to resolve my problem. Finally, I was told that the Rebit developers would have to get involved to trouble-shoot and resolve this issue. As of writing this review, an resolution has not been developed.

I can not recommend Rebit to anyone because of this issue.

I bought this after a great review in one of the PC magazines.

After HOURS of trying to get it to function properly it simply would not work. When it started it would keep saying something about 'creating backup -- this will take a few minutes'... then HOURS and even DAYS later, it still said the same thing. It also had the nasty habit of popping up a message every three seconds which grabbed the 'focus' away from whatever other program was running, which would only go away if you clicked on it, so it rendered my computer completely incapable of doing any other work. The only solution was to reboot.

The REBIT support folks spent a lot of time with me on the phone and remotely connected into my system, sent me new/updated versions (the shipped version was way out of date).

Finally they simply threw up their hands and sent me an email saying "if this last attempted fix doesn't work we give up" (it didn't, so they did).

In checking the Rebit web site, it appears to me that this is a fairly new product (very little support thread data out there) and other people have experienced similar issues. In any case, it was a complete waste of time to keep trying to get it working both for them and me.

Fortunately, Amazon and J&R photo (who actually shipped the product) gave a full refund so kudos for J&R ... boo to Rebit.

Windows users are looking for "time machine". The mac program lets you set backup parameters. Rebit takes over your machine. It slows down all functions of the computer like the early versions of Norton Antivirus used to. Whenever I log on to my machine in the morning the computer it acts like it is stuck in deep mud for at least 10 minutes, then never gets up to speed.
After tolerating the slowdown for two weeks I get a message from Rebit that the major file is corrupt.
This program offers nothing

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible customer service and major design flaws, June 26, 2010

I loved the idea of Rebit. The ease of installation and automatic backup sounded great. But my experience was that Rebit conflicted with Windows Explorer on my computer so that I couldn't use either one.

When I contacted Customer Service, it took a few days to get a reply by email and then after several emails back and forth, with a day or two in between each, the problem wasn't solved.

The Customer Service Manager requested to log on to my computer remotely to try and see what was going on. We made an appointment but he didn't keep it. We rescheduled for a week in the future and 20 minutes after the appointed time, he emailed me to say his day wasn't going well and we would need to reschedule. I replied that this was frustrating for me and was there someone else in the department that could help me. I never heard another word from the company and have given up contacting them.

I'm looking for alternative backup software now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Upfront on Backup, January 27, 2010

I highly recommend the Rebit Backup Software. The wife is not the best at backing up her data so I bought this and installed it on a USB external drive. The only caveat is that the disk you plan to use this on must be completely free of data. This program does a scan to see if there are any files or documents, and if it finds data, it will not install. Of course, you could always use a shredder program or reformat the backup drive, then reinstall. I found it absolutely effortless to install it on a new drive.
Rebit constantly monitors your main drive and makes almost immediate backups. With the price of hard drives dropping every week, there's no reason to let you data go unprotected. Unless of course, there's no baby pictures, or family pictures, tax returns, scanned receipts or nothing else of importance on your computer.
Otherwise, get this program.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rebit Backup, 64 bit, November 16, 2009

After a couple of months of use, Rebit software has effortlessly backed up my computer. The box version was not useful for 64-bit Vista Home premium (although the box says it is), but after a call I was immediately sent a link to download the 64-bit program. Make sure that your directories are the way you want them to be copied. You CANNOT delete items on the backup drive from Rebit. You must uninstall Rebit, erase your backup drive, and reinstall Rebit to change your file structure. Otherwise all old directories will be saved with any new directories. I think the program would be improved with the ability to delete files from the backup drive. I paid $25 from Amazon, with free shipping, and it was a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rebit backup software, December 21, 2009

A simple, elegant solution for total system backup. It backs up everything, including the operating system and works unobtrusively in the background. It requires a USB connection and a decent size external hard drive. USB connections are not the fastest available, but that is not its strength. It just works reliably and unattended. A pop-up icon in the system tray always provides current status. Windows 7 (64 bit) requires an update from Rebit support, but their response was fast and professional. Very highly recommended backup solution!

The Rebit software installed flawlessly. I installed it in my spare USB hard drive. It took a while to backup my computer, but after that it keeps backing up daily. No more worry about losing things that are sometimes irreplaceable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for 64 bit Systems, December 20, 2009

First, take my review with a grain of salt as I have not actually "used" the product. I tried to install it so I could backup my computer running Vista 64 prior to installing Windows 7. It took quite a while to clear off the information on my 1Tb WD USB drive which only had 12Gb on it. Then, when it was almost finished, it informed me that AVG antivirus had a file in use it could not remove. Since ReBit commandeers your drive so the only thing that can use it is ReBit it would not install. So I reformatted the drive then installed ReBit. This went very fast until it was done and I tried to run it. That is when it decided to tell me it did not work with 64 bit systems. A statement in the description or a quick computer check would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.
Update: Rebit customer service contacted me after I emailed them my problem. They sent me to a link that had the newer Windows 7 version I could download. After running the downloaded program and entering my license key from the purchased version it seems to be working fine. I'll really find out when I install Win 7 if it crashes.
