Not just another small-block chevy rebuild book - Mavrigian really shows the differences of the gen II chevy small block. Good pictures and lots of specifics. Buy it before rebuilding your LT-1 in your 92+ vette, 93+ F-body or B- body.

Very Well Written. Images are very helpful. Step by step rebuild with pictures and every single piece showing what you need to do with what's also of the most importance to seals and etc. I would highly recommend this book to any LT1 or LT4 enthusiast rebuilding a motor.

Rebuilding Lt1/Lt4 Engines,
This review is from: How to Rebuild Small-Block Chevy Lt1/Lt4 Engines Hp1393 (Paperback)
A good how on the LT1 and LT4 motors. There are a few differences then the standard SBC. plenty of images of the whole rebuild process. Would been better if they were in color.

I was rebuilding my LT1 (and stroking it to 383). This is a good LT reference book and provides many helpful hints when working on this motor.

About the book... I've never built an engine before, but have done just about everything else on a car. Mike's details are outstanding. Even down to the smallest items. A 5th grader could build an LT1 using this book. The LT1 was in storage for the past 9 years. Never installed or run. Still has assembly lube in the guts and on the original engine stand. I posted a couple pics. I called Mike and asked him about issues with an engine stored that long. He thought there should be none, but that I needed to run the oil pump (or pressurized the oil system) before starting the motor. He was great to talk to. Even if you're an expert engine builder, this would make a great reference tool.

This book is a must for anyone that has an LT1/ LT4 motor. Most manuals offer everything for small block Chevy engines but have very little in reference to the idiosyncrasies' of the LT1/ LT4 engines. The unique features of this particular engine are much different than its predecessor and completely different from the LS series engines. Anyone making an attempt to rebuild a LT1/LT4 engine must read this book, FIRST. The entire book is full of detailed illustrations with comprehensive explanations. Attention to detail is quite evident in the step by step break down and build up procedures. The only suggestion I would have to improve this manual would be a DVD of an LT1/LT4 motor completely broken down and completely reassembled. Included on the DVD should be the builds of a naturally aspirated engine, a turbo engine, a non-computer controlled engine (Carbureted), and finally back to the original fuel injected engine.
All in All, this is a must buy for LT1/LT4 engine owners.

This book is excelent for a person who would like to rebuild the LT1/LT4 engine to stock specs. I was a little disappointed in the lack of detail on the 265ci(L99) version engines. They mention some specs on the 265ci(L99) but a good parts interchange with the LT1/LT4 would be good. (for the mechanic on a budget!)

Heavy on the machining,

All in all I thought the book was excellent.
Just thought it might have spent a little too many pages on machining.Just my thoughts |
