Hardcore At Its Best!,

This review is from: Rebuild (Audio CD)
Review by Mike Watson:
Yet another small label, old school style, hardcore album, but wait.......this ones good? From a reviewer that never thought he'd type that statement, it's true. Fresh from the almost unknown label of Rivalry Records comes Verse, a straight up no frills hardcore band with a positive message and their own twist on the music they play. When comparing Verse, the obvious is Comeback Kid, using the same fast paced chord progression and style of hardcore along with staying positive and refusing to accept violence in the hardcore scene. The similarities are undeniable. The vocal styling and delivery are even very similar, though Verse does have quite a few more group vocals on the album then Comeback Kid ever has. The main difference is the transitions between songs. After fast paced hardcore, Verse goes into melodic guitar parts to transfer songs, which though throwing the listener off guard is a breath of fresh air into their style of music. Verse is doing their part to rebuild a better sense of community in the hardcore scene and so should you by picking up this album and taking the lyrics to heart.

Amazing,

This CD is amazing from start to finish. Verse is one of the best "new school" hardcore bands out there right now. The CD is angry, fast, and melodic all at the same time. The lyrics are all well thought out. I can't wait for their next CD which comes out in August.
So what if a band gets big or sells out. As long as they stick to their message and do what they love the most....making and playing music.

This is one of those cd's that you just want to immidiatley stick some grandiose statement ontop of, you know BS like "bringing hardcore back into the 21st century", but damn I find it hard not to be in complete awe of this record. Basically it's straight edge hardcore the way it was meant to be played, when you put a YOT or a BOLD record next to it, it shines just as bright. I am kinda blushing but honestly this is an f'ing classic album (and it came out no more than 3 years ago!) this is what hardcore is! This is hardcore music, pure and simple. If anyone is bringing hardcore back to the masses it's Verse, the torch bearers of sxe hardcore's rebirth (taking it back from the fakers and the airwaves). It's definatley time for revival, and this is our battle cry, x'd up hands sing alongs and finger pointing, while the fakers will definatley make money off of this (they have before and they always will) Verse and the like are true. Packed solid with sing alongs, youth spirit and conviction, I'm in awe. I haven't felt this way about a hardcore record since I heard Not in this Alone or the first time I heard Minor Threat, honestly it excites me and just confirms the fact that hardcore will NEVER die, it is the most pure and honest form of music I've ever heard and of course liars and fakes will try to make a buck off it, people will sell out and lies will be told, f that! Your going to write off all the kids, the conviction of all our favorite records and the times we had just becuase the guy from Strife broke edge or more than half of Ten Yard Fight ended up selling out? That is stupid, the music is all that matters, the message is all that matters, we don't remeber the sell outs we remeber what they said and what (at that moment at least) they meant. This is amazing music, it gets me excited for hardcore and it's only going to get better, we are on the cusp of another revival brothers and sisters, let's make it last let's make it the best yet! Cause I know I've always wanted to know what it felt like to have the spirit of '88 (hey I was 5 years old man!) and now is our time, the kids are listening, x up, get in front and sing as loud as you f'ing can! Hardcore proud 2006!
