Nehemiah's work in the Old Testament is used as an anology for this study of improving one's self. This rebuilding of the wall of the city is similar to the process of God restoring His people today. Pastor Hayford discribes the mission of the Holy Spirit as that of helping you to maximize your potential. We're reminded of God's original intent in creating us, i.e., "man, created perfectly 'in the image of God,' was designed for large purposes and deep fulfillment." He adds, "relationship and rulership are fundamental to our created purpose."

An excellent point is made on time spent with God. It is essential above all else. Dr. Hayford tells us that we discover self-understanding when we're in God's presence. God's nature is revealed to us in His presence, i.e., to save, to heal, to rescue, to redeem, to provide, and to answer.

This is a deeply solid book. It is filled with insights that will transform your thinking. Reading it will bring you closer to God. Your confidence will increase as you are reminded that you are His project. He has committed Himself to you and He is working all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes. This book will build your faith and the just shall live by faith.

Jack Hayford is a unique Bible teacher, pastor, and leader. Every word evokes a myriad of feelings, thoughts, and ideas. This is a wonderful work and I was fortunate to get the earlier version too. It is amazing how well this teaching has withstood the test of time. This will make an EXCELLENT small group study, individual development or devotional.

You are worth the investment in yourself that the price of this book requires. More than that, you are worth the investment applying the teachings in this book will require of you.

"Rebuilding The Real You" by Jack Hayford is a great encouragement and challenge to allow God to restore you instead of trying a self-improvement program that is doomed to fail when done only in our strength.

Among some of the points covered by Hayford include:

1. Rebuilding a human personality is an undertaking the Holy Spirit will take on when we allow Him to do so.
2. Jesus said that unless we come to Him as a child, we cannot truly live as a child of God.
3. When hard times come, lean on the everlasting arms of the Almighty.
4. God is for us and is committed to our total restoration.
5. Regardless of how bleak circumstances are, Jesus Christ has given us the power and resources to overcome.
6. The devil will constantly try to hinder God's program for you.
7. Our vertical growth in Christ cannot be disassociated from our horizontal growth with people around us.

A great read. Highly recommended!

This study will help anyone understand the deeper meaning of the book of Nehemiah . I really enjoyed the way author Jack Hayford show that the Holy Spirit wants to rebuild walls in peoples lives today like Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem. A great read. Also very good to use in a small group Bible study.

The prophet Nehemiah rebuilt the broken walls and gates of Jerusalem and shows him to be a type of the Holy Spirit and His work in rebuilding the ruins and broken walls of our lives. The parallels are astounding, very encouraging, and healing. I would recommend this book to every Christian believer, as we all have broken places in our lives where our enemy can enter.

This book would also make a great small group study if the leader were willing and able to design a format to that end. I did wish there were a workbook or a 12-week structure for a small group, but it's excellent for personal study and application!

I've been reading some of John Eldredge's and Ransomed Heart's materials, and this is consistent with the notion that the Christian life is available, but rare... it is the life of Christ - living now in us. As Jesus lives in us (through the Holy Spirit), we become restored and renewed. We get to live the life Jesus lived, and we get to live the lives that God always intended for us to live (i.e., the Real You - Restored).

Highly recommended reading!

Altho I just started my study in this book it appears to be just what i need, or everyone needs. Getting our minds to agree with what God says we are and what we can do, that is the key to this life in my opinion.

Jack Hayford has written a readable, inspired work defining how real personal change is driven by our responses to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in Christian believers. I work as a volunteer chaplain within my state's prison system and bought several copies to share with my pastor and those most closely associated with volunteers involved in sharing Christ with inmates within these institutions. Thanks Jack Hayford!

Jack Hayford compares the rebuilding of the ruined Jerusalem through the leadership and direction of Nehemiah to the rebuilding of our ruined lives with the power of the Holy Spirit. Awesome !!

When I studied Nehemiah I wish I had read this book first..........it explains it in a whole new light.........he is a prototype of the Holy Spirit........
