Complete, but do you have the tools?, February 16, 2006
This review is from: Rebuilding Your Front End [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The video shows an in-depth rebuild of a double A-arm front end. It starts with a review of basic safety recommendations and tools needed to do the rebuild. Next stage shows how to remove the steering linkage and sway bar, bushings, tie-rod, and knuckle. The video also shows how to do this in a practical fashion, without omitting easy overlooked items such as making markings, measurements, and where to lube, to be sure you put it all back together correctly. Once the front end is disassembled, they move right into the rebuild, and how to get everything back together again using the new parts. What may be a problem for the do-it-yourselfer is that these guys do it in a professional garage, and although they dont need a lift, they do use some jury-rigging to get the rebuild done, with stuff you might not have lying around your garage at home. After the rebuild is complete, there is an excellent discussion of how to set caster, camber, and toe. The last segment shows some other different types of front ends, including chevy, chrysler, and ford.
This video is appropriate for someone with some experience around cars and is looking to rebuild or upgrade their front suspension. The techniques would apply to probably any vehicle.
The major downside is that the audio has quite a bit of crackling, although you can hear the mechanic as he carefully walks through each step of the process.
I would recommend this video if you need explanation on how to rebuild a front end, or even if you think you can do it, as the video will point out some techniques that are probably only gained with experience.
