Peter Murphy - Seesaw Sway

Biography

In his four decades of service in the post-punk culture wars, PETER MURPHY has confounded fans, critics, even himself. As the mainman of the acclaimed outfit Bauhaus, he helped usher in ground breaking opaque moods and atmospheres into the post-punk landscape. When the band broke up for the first time in 1983, the singer set off on a solo career that found him challenging his audiences in numerous… Read more in Amazon's Peter Murphy Store

4.0 out of 5 stars europop remixes of some great songs, December 7, 2004

Produced and remixed by Sascha Konietzko, Bill Rieflin and Tim Skold with Peter Murphy, this EP attempts to modernize what I think are two songs that are fairly close to perfect - Roll Call and Indigo Eyes. My problem with most "remixes" is that they don't wander too far from the original, while these songs are completely new and engaging. Gone is some of the fire, but the infusion of euro techno pop and dance beats is interesting and worth owning.

The three new songs are mediocre at best. Big Love is a ballad with added techno beats and sound effects. I like it, but its not a standout. Surrendered is a bit melodramatic, while Big and Tiny is obviously heavily influenced by the adult contemporary path Peter seemed to be going down on his last couple albums. This is where it began.

I was hoping for something different on the vinyl release of this EP, but its the same tracks as this cd.

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Everybody's born surrendered', January 8, 2004

This was actually the first solo Peter Murphy album I bought. This was recorded on the heels of the amazing Bauhaus reunion tour. Recorded with some cats from Skinny Puppy, Recall takes a drastic turn musically, featuring mostly electronic music and practically no actual playing of instruments. In great contrast to the rest of the EP is the final all acoustic track 'Big and Tiny' live. Then, after a moment of silence, Peter sings a haunting rendition of the song 'Cool Cool Breeze'. A song which I have read was recorded but left unfinished for an earlier album, Holy Smoke I believe. Electronic versions of 'Rollcall' and 'Indigo Eyes' start off this tragically short release. As an EP it makes a great inexpensive introduction to a truly magnificent voice, although this doesn't accurately represent the music on any of his other releases.

5.0 out of 5 stars OH PETER I LOVE YOU, February 10, 2002

This little cd is quite a gem. I really enjoyed all the songs, finding the remake of "Indigo Eyes" especially interesting. The wonderful new song "Surrendered" is so amazing I did not think I was going to be able to turn it off. It alone is worth the price of the cd. On a more practical note, do not be too fast to turn off your cd after the last song. I was and so it took me about 6 months to realize that there is a hidden song "Cool Cool Breeze" after it.
