5.0 out of 5 stars WHOLE anchovies, but excellent!!
This GIANT can of anchovies is an incredible value, but please be aware that they are WHOLE, SALT-PACKED anchovies. They arrived super fast, and they are huge and delicious, but you WILL need to fillet them yourself!! Half the can is salt -- they are VERY salty!! Also, the can is marked "MUST BE REFRIGERATED" but was shipped via standard UPS. I can only hope that it...

3.0 out of 5 stars SALTY Anchovies
I got these anchovies as a gift for my anchovy-loving boyfriend. While he liked them well enough, they were just too salty to be able to even consider getting through the entire can, even over months. We soaked them in water prior to consumption and that helped, but on the whole I think they would have been more enjoyable with about 1/16th of the salt.

2.2lbs of anchovies may be over the top, but when they are as good as these, then over the top is the place to be. The difference in taste to regular anchovies & these salted one ones is like the difference of filet mignon to a fast food hamburger...unless you LIKE fast food...
It may seem expensive to buy this many, however, they last indefinitely, and one will usually take the place of a whole can of the grocery store variety.
Yum!

sure, friends and family will wonder why you have a kilogram (that's 2.2 lbs to you and me) of anchovies in your fridge....but once they taste these anchovies they will understand. Jam packed in salt, reminiscent of an artic expedition's survival fare, the can of choice Recca Mediterranean anchovies is de rigueur for the true anchovy aficionado...pick up a tin today

An amazing difference from the old canned anchovies! Try them, you'll never go back. Store in a plastic or glass container after opening and you're good to go for a long time, if they last that long!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, October 15, 2011
This review is from: Recca Salted Anchovies - Net Weight 1lb. 12oz (Drained Weight 1lb. 3oz.) (Misc.)
Once you try these, you will not go back to conventional anchovies. If you never liked anchovies, it is probably because you never had the good stuff. If you worry about the large size of the can, don't. Stored in a glass container under salt in the refrigerator, these anchovies keep forever (not that they need to, you'll start using them more and more). Put one or two in beef stews, on lamb roasts, etc. It adds a depth of flavor, nothing fishy at all.

However, shipping charges on this are ridiculous. I ordered once online. Realizing I would need more, I searched for an Italian deli that carried them. It took a while, but I now have a source for fantastic other Italian products that are difficult to get anywhere else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must use correctly., September 14, 2011
This review is from: Recca Salted Anchovies - Net Weight 1lb. 12oz (Drained Weight 1lb. 3oz.) (Misc.)
These anchovies are first rinsed, then filleted and then melted in olive oil in most cases and used for flavoring dishes such as Pasta Putanesca sauce. If your plan is to just rinse them and fillet them and then down them with a piece of pugliese bread dripping in extra virgin olive oil and a glass of chianti then these will work for you also. Putting them on pizza is not what they are intended for. The variety of their uses is vast if you have any knowledge of Meditteranean cuisine, if not get yourself a good cookbook and learn, the flavors they impart are without comparison, not to mention the aromas they send out floating around the neighborhood.

5.0 out of 5 stars These are anchovies?, March 21, 2011

These anchovies are excellent; nothing like the salty, fishy cousins packed in oil available on a grocers shelf. Instead the taste has depth and character, somewhat like a sardine but with a little more bite. The drawback here is that you must scrape the skin off and "filet" the little fishes, worth the effort in my opinion.

The price was too high but the product was just great... A possible touch-up to the price would make even better
