5.0 out of 5 stars YOU NEED THIS CD!!!!
I first saw this band open up for a 311 concert years ago, and i never remembered a band with such energy!!! I kept my eyes open for this CD and one day i finally found it.... it still has yet to leave my CD player. Master of Syles is a great CD also, but I must say it can't compete with this one. I have seen the band twice since then, and they were GREAT, the most...

2.0 out of 5 stars This Is Pretty Disappointing
Yeah, so this band actually has this awesome song, called "It's My Turn To Fly," from the Titan A.E.: Music From The Motion Picture (2000 Film) soundtrack, which made me want check out more of their music. This band is one of the rare instances that has one incredible song, and the rest of their entire body of music is just, not good at all. And this is coming from...

I have seen the band twice since then, and they were GREAT, the most nuts i've ever gone at any concert. Not quite ska, not punk, i really don't know what to call it, but i LOVE it. This CD had made this band one of my favorites so i highly recoment you check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars WAKE UP, May 29, 1999

In the words of many others...."ENERGY"! If you like loud music that gets your heart pumping....this is the CD for you. From the opening horn blast the LP rocks. This band is full of energy, the music is well rehearsed, you can tell this band has been together for a while. Music just doesn't get much better than this.

I highly recomend you buy this CD! LATE

5.0 out of 5 stars very cool, June 1, 2005
This review is from: Receiving the Gift of Flavor (Audio CD)
I love this album, and it's one of the only ones that the whole album has been downloaded to my ipod!!
I actually got into this album in 1998 when studying and going out with a St Louis native. I didn't buy the album in the States, but visited a friend in Japan and found this album in a second hand record shop (thrift store) in downtown Nagoya - a Truely international cult following I think!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great original band!!, January 14, 2003

I had heard songs like "Jump Right In" on the radio before, and I really got into this band's music. I decided to check them out live once when they came to the Blue Note in my town, and they completely rocked out. Since That show, I have seen them live two other times, and they have rockd out every single time. They always do a hardcore cover of Bob Marley's "One Love" and it is amazing. This is a great CD to groove to and is strikingly original. It's a kind of ska/reggae/punk mix and it is executed very well. The songs are all really amazing. The ylrics are funny and original and the band members can play. Check out this CD, as well as "Master of styles" and "Too Much Stereo." Also, if you evr get a chance, check 'em out live. I heard they might have broken up, and they haven't been around lately, and that would make me sad, but if that rumor is false, check them out. They're awesome!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best bands to come out of St. Louis, September 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Receiving the Gift of Flavor (Audio CD)
It is really exciting to hear the the Urge is becoming more and more popular in the U.S. I am an avid fan of theirs since they first came out in St. Louis. This CD is in my opinion one of their best of all time. The second one, Master of styles is good but not as good as Receiving the Gift of Flavor. "Brainless" is the heart pumping brain jolting hard rock song. The whole CD is awsome to listen to , I don't know what to classify their music as, probably hard rock with horns. For all the other fans not in St. Louis it might be hard to find their albums in stores, so order it now from Amazon, I guarantee you will like it!

5.0 out of 5 stars High octane stuff!!!, March 27, 1999

Everybody else has pretty well described The Urge. To summarize: The Urge is incredibly energetic, The Urge really get up for a live crowd, the lyrics are cleverly simple, and "Open All Night" is a cult classic. Your opinion of The Urge will depend on how much excitement you can handle. Do you feel lucky, punk?

5.0 out of 5 stars The Urge is one of the best ska/punk bands around, January 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Receiving the Gift of Flavor (Audio CD)
I haven't been an Urge fan for very long, but they are very popular in my hometown of St. Louis and I had the pleasure of going to a concert of theirs in September. This is one of my favorite CDs because the awesome guitar and horns complement Steve Ewing's voice very well. I think this is a must-have for any ska or punk fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't get any better..., October 23, 1998

I've been an avid fan of The Urge ever since they came through with 311 a while back...I must say after my friend wisely lent me this cd....egad I didn't think there was a band with this much energy. I've heard them caterogized as ska, punk, funk, rock, metal, hip-hop, alternative, reggae, heck you name it it'll be in the album somewhere. I was lucky enough to catch one of their concerts about a month ago - insane. They tore the place up, they just blew all the other shows I've been to out of the water. A superb band, and even better to see live, I would highly recommend this album..wow.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite CD of all time, October 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Receiving the Gift of Flavor (Audio CD)
Being from The Urge's hometown I get to hear their music often. I have been to a total of 6 concerts of The Urge and they never get boring. I am an avid concert goer but I would have to say my first Urge concert was by far the greatest concert of my life and I doubt it will ever be surpassed. Unfortunately, the older Urge CDs (Magically Delicious, Fat Babies in the Mix, etc.) are very rare because they are just as good as 'Flavor.' I would definitely give this CD five stars (Of course I would actually give it 6 stars on the scale of 5 stars, but we'll leave it at that). The Urge will become one of the most ground-breaking bands ever due to their unique and original style.
