Book Description

In thinking about your own retirement, does it seem “more probable” to you that your MONEY will outlive you… or that YOU will outlive your money? In either case, the proven strategies in this book can safely make your savings work much harder.

This book is a must have for people who are already retired or within just a few years of their retirement. If this describes you, please keep reading.
But if you are more than 5 years from retirement, please search for his book “Stress-Free Retirement Planning” on Amazon, which will be more appropriate for you.

“Recession-Proof Retirement” shows retirees how to safely increase your interest income, reduce your income taxes and/or predictably increase your security, wealth and legacy.

A successful retirement is no longer a “slam dunk”. With fewer retirees getting sizable pensions, the lingering effects of the great recession of 2008, a decade of stock market volatility and continuing historically low interest rates, managing finances for a long and prosperous retirement can be tricky for all but the very wealthy.

As a practicing Certified Financial Planner, Mr. Orr likes to start a retirement income discussion with this fact. There have been 23 economic recessions since 1900 and more will follow. They can all adversely & permanently impact a retiree's lifestyle and/or their hopes for leaving a meaningful legacy. On average, one happens about every five years, so you will likely experience 5-7 recessions during your retirement.

Have you recovered from the last two recessions yet? Are you fully prepared for the next one? If not, what are you going to do differently?

Along with the high likelihood of living through more recessions, longevity and inflation are the big demons to beat during retirement. Many retirees have yet to fully consider, plan and invest for these nearly inevitable occurrences.

That could be an awful mistake unless you have more than a $1,000,000 in savings, a large pension that you both can count on… and you don’t rely
on 2 Social Security checks each month. What will happen when one of those Social Security checks stops coming in?

The average lifespan of Americans has been rising for many decades and will continue to do so with medical advances. A couple aged 62 today, has a joint life expectancy of age 92 - so at least one of them is likely to live until age 92 or even longer. So we should really plan for a 25-35 year retirement income stream.

However, we can’t forget about inflation risk over the next few decades. Every year, everything that you buy will cost more. At 3% inflation, your cost of living will double in 24 years. With inflation factored in, we need to plan for
a 25-35 year “rising income” -- as your cost of living during retirement will probably double. One cannot afford to wait and deal with this looming economic “time-bomb” later.

With that in mind, retirees need secure places to put their money that provide decent returns that safely beat inflation over the next 2-3 decades, provide great liquidity at any time, offer flexibility and much more.

This book shows examples of how his clients are using these financial strategies and solutions for a more secure monthly income. The income planning strategies combined with what he believes are some of the best types of retirement investments to beat inflation and your likely longevity.

If you are closed-minded to new retirement income methods, this book is not for you. You will not read about old, failed methods.

These safe financial vehicles can be perfect CD, bond and annuity alternatives for a safe place for retirement savings and IRAs. They come with much flexibility and other valuable benefits for you and your family. And this book is NOT about index annuities which so many annuity salespeople are pushing onto seniors.

The educational and easy-to-understand information in this book can provide security and new long-term rising income solutions for

1.0 out of 5 stars Pure self serving sales job November 10, 2012
By Hennig
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a pure sales brochure by the author (a fee-based financial advisor), trying to drum up business, thinly disguised as a financial-advice book. He is trying to increase his business of selling his "custom designed" life insurance policies.

Full of inflated historical return data, designed to hook poorly informed seniors.

If something appears too good to be true, it is. This is a dangerously deceptive piece of self-promotion. CAUTION ADVISED!!!

Amazon should not carry this kind of material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review for Recession Proof Retirement February 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Although I agree with some of the other reviews that this book
may come off a bit "salesy", there is a wealth of valuable information
and little-known financial planning and investment ideas that can reduce
my income taxes right now while earning a higher return on my money
(without taking big stock or bond market risks) . I'll likely contact the author
personally, but I am definitely going to explore these ideas further one way
or another. In any case, it's a great read for those of us who are looking to
improve our own retirement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recession-Proof Retirement February 18, 2013

Short and sweet and loaded with interesting information.
I love a book that gets to the point quickly without chapters of
fluff. This book gave me a great deal of new ideas about increasing
my interest income and saving taxes on my interest earnings.
Not only was the book easy-to-understand, the financial concepts
made perfect sense for people like me who don't want to take risks
with our life savings.

4.0 out of 5 stars New information about good ways to cut my income taxes February 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and learning about newer products that safely make my money earn much more while deferring my income taxes on my interest earnings.

We hate sending too much money to the IRS and I never thought about what he calls "opportunity cost" before.
The author makes a compelling argument for alternatives to Certificates of Deposit and bonds. A worthwhile read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written, straight forward, easy to read! January 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a financial advisor myself, I have read many investment/insurance/retirement planning books and I must say this was the best one yet. It was concise, to the point and very easy to read. Most of the books out there are too long or have too much detail for the average consumer to understand and provide a lot of fluff, this book doesn't do that at all. The writer gets right down to the specifics and gives good examples. He also doesn't knock other investment vehicles and in fact talks about managed money as another alternative to the insurance vehicles he speaks about. I am always looking for a good book to give clients that discusses some of the insurance technics that are available or fee based investment options and most are just not simplistic enough to use, this on the other hand does exactly what I need and helps my clients understand in a very short period what each concept is about and how it works. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to learn a little more about Index Insurance products and understands that this is a quick read that covers the basics very well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some good investment and retirement advice from a pro January 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This e-book is written for people that are still saving for their retirement and want to totally avoid stock market volatility and risks and enjoy a substantial future TAX FREE income stream during their retirement years with tax and penalty free account access along the way.
With the economic recessions that are so common to us these days, this e-book it a God send, statistics say you'll experience between 5-7 recessions during your retirement, this is where this e-book comes in, you'll learn and read about safe places to put money that will provide returns that safely beat inflation, great liquidity and more.
I like the educated info contained within these pages, our author definitely knows his stuff and writes in a manner that you'll understand the advice here quite easily.
I recommend this to people within 5 years of retiring mainly, although those in their 20's, 30's and 40's will learn a lot and be helped by reading this too.
It'll be worth investing in this e-book to keep on your kindle for easy reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book saved us a fortune February 16, 2013
By Brooke
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book saved us from paying annual LTC premiums for the rest of our lives.
We had almost decided to buy a regular long term care policy. Even after shopping around with 3 different insurance agents, the annual premiums where very high (and we are in very good health).
Anyway, we read the part in this book about annuity and life insurance policies that can pay for long term care expenses as well - that have no premiums every year. We will transfer our old annuities into new ones with extra LTC benefits. Our CPA even confirmed that if we need to pay for home health care expenses down the road, the withdrawals will be tax-free.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great advice written in English! November 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Mark Orr is the rarest of financial planners. He knows his stuff, and he is able to write IN ENGLISH. If you are thinking about retirement this is the book for you. Mark explains why many safe investment ideas may not be as safe as they first appear. He explains why taxes are likely to rise in the coming years, and what to do about it. He also explains many concepts, such as the Indexed Universal Life Policy, that I had never heard of before. If you're looking to arrange your finances in such a way as to minimize your legal tax obligations while getting the most out of your retirement years, this book is a great place to start.

Check the author and his firms, present and past, on FINRA site and SEC. It is hard to trace this advisor's past, but the firms he seemed to be linked to are problematic.

More About the Author

Mark J. Orr has been a Certified Financial Planner and Registered Investment Advisor since 2000.

He has been in the financial services industry since 1997 and has given many financial seminars and sold 1,000's of copies of various financial e-books that he has written over the years. Mark has clients in many states and enjoys helping people make the most of their financial future - while ensuring they do not neglect their present.

He does NOT write about financial subjects the way most financial authors do or mainstream magazines. It's not the same old (and he would argue failed advice) of work hard, save more, live below your means, diversify and buy mutual funds.

Mark does not see himself as a writer, but as a practicing financial planner who helps real people truly change their financial lives with a safe, real game-plan for reaching their goals.

When he is not advising clients, he works out regularly in the gym and loves to travel to warm and sunny beaches.
