2.0 out of 5 stars This CD is Instrumental
There is no singing or lyrics on this CD. The music is great but I wanted vocals. Could be my fault. Maybe I could have read it more closely and maybe it said that it was all instrumentals but in any case, only buy this if you want the music and not vocals. I still love everythins David Foster has done but he has worked with some awesome singers and his work is better...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great instrumental CD, January 10, 2003

David Foster weaves his magic over a number of songs, some well-known, that he's written or co-written, but virtually all of which were recorded by others. The instrumental treatment of these pieces is terrific, particularly "Voices That Care," "Hard To Say I'm Sorry," and "Love, Look What You've Done To Me." Guest appearance by a not-so-hugely-well-known-back-then Kenny G on "After The Love Has Gone." This is a highly-recommended CD, and an excellent companion to Foster's incomparable "Symphony Sessions" album.

5.0 out of 5 stars >>David Foster: The Greatest Sounds Ever<<, June 5, 1999

I used to have a copy of this on tape and it played until the tape was worn out. I had to hunt down this gem all over LA to get a CD copy of it and it was worth the search. This timeless CD evokes human emotion, from the soundtracks of some of the 80's most memorable soundtracks. This is a CD I will surely will wear out, and hope you agree, it is a gem indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great "Re-chordings" By One of Todays Biggest Producers and Composers, June 5, 2008

Years before he was producing and arranging non-original songs for the likes of Celine Dion, Michael Buble, Andrea Boccielli and Josh Groban David Foster was playing his own hits. I would love to have had it done with his "voice" Warren Wiebe (who sang two of the songs in the movie montage) but I guess Foster prefered it to be instrumental.

1. Look What You've Done to Me- Performed by Boz Scaggs on the soundtrack to Urban Cowboy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Foster gives it a country guitar flavor courtesy of the ever

present Dean Parks. Boz Scaggs also co-wrote it with Foster as well and this is known to be Foster's personal favorites of all his own compisitions.

2. You're the Inspiration- The Chicago classic and of course Peter Cetera co-wrote this and here Foster does it in a carousel waltz style...

3. After the Love has Gone- A great version of the EWF classic which Foster also did with Jay Graydon as part of Airplay. Kenny G guests on tenor sax.

4. Glory of Love- Another Peter Cetera-David Foster composed piece, this was written for The Karate Kid, Part II [Region 2] and was Foster's first Oscar-nominated song. I can just hear Warren Wiebe sing it, but Foster gives it a Liberace treatment.

5. Who's Holding Donna Now- Not as widely known as some of the others, this was another Foster-Graydon collaboration (with Randy Goodrum another west coast guru) for DeBarge in '85. Done in a Latin style.

6. Voices That Care- Based on the actual instrumental demo for the Gulf War charity choir that took the charts earlier that year.

7. St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)- While Foster's biggest non- vocal chart hit is the love theme from St. Elmo's Fire: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack he does an interesting take on John Parr's hard driving theme song, which makes him a true "Man in Motion"

8. Freedom- The only non- cover, this was taken off Foster's previous album the Quincy Jones styleRiver of Love and has a very John Tesh like approach.

9. Hard to Say I'm Sorry- Yet another Chicago classic which along with "(Love) Look What You've Done to Me" appears on Foster's first "solo" album THE BEST OF ME.

10. Movie Montage- A medley of little known gems some of which make their debut here. They include:

From One Good Cop Warren Wiebe's "If Not For Love" also recorded by Carl Anderson. Of course I can just hear him singing it

A theme from "Golden Fiddles" (a Canadian mini- series) I'm not sure who sang or recorded it in the movie, maybe it was a vocal?

"No Tomorrows" fromFresh Horses While Foster cowrote it with Kenny Loggins it was performed in the movie by George Hawkins

(the former bass player for Loggins and Fleetwood Mac)

Two themes from Listen to Me including the title song which the underrated Mr. Wiebe sang with Celine Dion (in one of her first movie soundtracks) Foster has GOT to release this song commercially one day. The others have already been recorded: Themes from Stealing Home: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

including Foster and Marilyn Martin's AND WHEN SHE DANCED and two of Foster's most famous orchestral pieces. WATER FOUNTAIN fromThe Secret Of My Success: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack and of course "Love Theme from St. Elmo's Fire".

Highly recommended. In the future maybe Foster will do a "Rechordings Two" with his insturmental variations on "The Prayer", his Josh Groban compositions, "Forever" and "Heart to Heart" by Kenny Loggins, Celine

Dion's "Colors of My Love"and "To Love You More", and maybe even a channeled medley with Warren Wiebe!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Listening At Its Finest, May 30, 2004
This review is from: Rechordings (Audio CD)
Are you looking for something to help put you to sleep at night (besides Nyquil)? Are you looking for a romantic backdrop? Are you looking for an alternative to Mozart to stimulate your infant's mind? Well, your search may be over with this fine piece of work from David Foster. For lack of a better term, this record SOOTHES.

David Foster has crafted or co-crafted some of the most beautifully melodic hit tunes over the years. "Hard to Say I'm Sorry," "Love, Look What You've Done to Me," and "After the Love Has Gone" are only a few. For the most part on Rechordings, Foster mellows out and lays down synthesized and symphonic textures with a grand piano serving as a lead voice. Of course, with Foster's perfectionism, there isn't a piano note a millisecond off, nor are there any cheesy synthesizer sounds. And as always, Foster's playing fails to be unmelodic.

The only argument that I can provide for someone writing this off as muzak or elevator music is: this is much, much better. If you're hoping to hear the original artists' arrangements (e.g. Chicago, Boz Scaggs), you may be disappointed. This is an instrumental record, with only melodies to conjure up memories. However, if you are hearing these songs for the first time on Rechordings, you may want to forget about the original artists---no joke!

All tracks on Rechordings stand out. If you're in a mellow mood, buy this record! Play it for the infant in the family and who knows... maybe he or she will grow up to be the next Einstein or, well, David Foster. All of the other reviews say it all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have, May 6, 2000

My dad raised me on David Foster, and this CD has got to be one of the best. His piano playing is beautiful, and his songs, I know this sounds cheesy, are moving. They really are. Nothing makes me more thoughtful than listening to this CD by myself or with those I love. It is a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my top 5 CD's!!!, February 26, 1999

I've had this CD by David Foster ever since it was released several years ago. It constantly stays in the stereo as our family uses it to have dinner by almost every night (except during the Christmas season when we listen to Foster's Christmas album. David is at his best when his recordings are totally instrumental rather than utilizing various vocalists. Here in one compilation, you have several of the mega hits of the late 70's and 80's that he had a major part in. "Love Look What You've Done To Me", "Who's Holding Donna Now" and especially the "Movie Montage" make the purchase of this CD one of the best musical investments you could make!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating, soothing, out-of-this-world, January 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rechordings (Audio CD)
I had not heard David Foster until hearing his rendition "Carol of the Bells" at the Victorian Country Christmas Festival play "The Living Nativity in Puyallup, WA last December. That song sent me to the stars so I ordered "The Christmas Album" along with this CD and another entitled "David Foster". I got this album first and played it. WOW is all I can say. Each song is unique and special. The last 7 songs clumped together as a Movie Montage is a very moving culmination to a fantastic album. The CD entitled "David Foster" is good, but I would have to rate it as a 4-star CD compared to this one as a five!!! Buy it, kick back, relax and ENJOY!!!
