5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent practical book
The endometriosis book I have been seeking for ages, and this one is a very good practical book which I use just about every day. It provides a clear and simple guide of the basic foods of what you can and cannot eat and why. There are lots of great and simple recipes, which has surprised me greatly considering how many things that need to be left out of this tough diet...

There are several recipes in this book, all of them sound delicious (mostly)...However the majority of them do not include ingredients readily available, or available in the states for that matter. It is however a good starting point for anyone that is just starting out on the Endo Diet. I suggest you do some looking at recipes and places on the internet before sinking...

The endometriosis book I have been seeking for ages, and this one is a very good practical book which I use just about every day. It provides a clear and simple guide of the basic foods of what you can and cannot eat and why. There are lots of great and simple recipes, which has surprised me greatly considering how many things that need to be left out of this tough diet.

I knew the foods I was eating were affecting my symptoms of endometriosis, and I knew roughly which foods I could and could not eat from checking the internet, but I was never completely sure. I now have the advice I need with this book and can have a safe but tasty diet. Even my kids like some of the recipes.

And finally, I have to say that the diet does work. I have much less pain with my periods, I don't feel as bloated, I have more energy, and to top it all I am starting to loose the weight I gained while I was on medication for this disease. I feel much better all round and I would recommend this book to other women with endo. What you eat really does make a difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars My pain has almost gone, September 3, 2009
This review is from: Recipes for the Endometriosis Diet (Paperback)
I have suffered from severe and very painful endometriosis for nearly 7 years and afer 5 surgeries I was at my wits end and had given up hope of a normal life. I have tried so many different things to help with my symptoms as the pain was so bad I could no longer go out to work and some days not even get out of bed. My doctor could only suggest a hysterectomy which I knew would not solved the problem - the endo is outside my womb, not inside it!! As a last ditch attempt to try anythig I have been following the diet for Endometriosis - AND IT WORKED!. My pain has almost disappeared and I am now looking to go back to work.

The recipes in this book are very tasty, and I have been able to eat some of my favourite recipes by tweeking them a bit so that they fit with the endo diet. There are stacks of ideas here of how to eat so that your symptoms can be reduced. I also feel much more alert, my skin is better and even my energy levels are getting better all the time.

Before buying the book I read that this book has a few inconsistencies in it, but on reading it fully myself then all things seem to be explained. I am very glad I bought it.

** Just follow the diet and get well - I know how all you ladies like me with endo are suffereing, but please try the diet if you have not done so **

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved me From Pain, July 30, 2008
This review is from: Recipes for the Endometriosis Diet (Paperback)
I am a stage 1V Endo patient, and wanted to stop by here to simply say that I bought this book a few years ago and it changed my life. I started to implement the dietary changes and the major ones that changed my life were eliminating wheat and lessening sugar. I went from chronic, horrible fatigue and pain to manageable. It wasn't easy, it took me two years to get a grip on my food addictions and I used Chronium supplement to great effect for controlling cravings. I recommend this book to every woman I meet who has Endo and actually I am mentioning it in an article I just wrote which I hope will be published soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely good practical book, June 25, 2008
This review is from: Recipes for the Endometriosis Diet (Paperback)
This book is very helpful in providing the recipes you need for the endo diet without having to trawl through loads of dietary information. It has delicious recipes for every day cooking needs.

After 7 years of endometriosis and suffering with lots of severe pain, I had been trying to follow the endo diet and started to come unstuck. But this book has given me lots of tasty new recipes and meal ideas and I have a clearer idea of what foods to eat and what foods to leave out of my diet.

I have definitely felt the benefits. As soon as I slip back, like eating wheat or red meat, then I really do pay for it later. I feel you need to change your shopping habits to purchase a few of the ingredients, but I have found other sources to do my shopping, like shopping online. I have also enjoyed my trips to my local health food store and have found a few endo safe ready meals as well as the ingredients I need. Also I can now purchase safer toiletries at the same time, and I have found the staff at the shop to be extremely helpful and keen to give advice.

Definitely a book worth having, and one you will use every day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chock full of nutritious recipes, May 3, 2009
This review is from: Recipes for the Endometriosis Diet (Paperback)
This recipe book has enough recipes to keep you cooking for a year, as well as explanations about why you must avoid certain foods in order to heal from endometriosis. The author writes compassionately to those suffering from endometriosis, encouraging readers/patients to take control of the disease through everyday behaviors, namely supporting yourself through nutrition. If readers follow the instructions for healthy eating, they'll no doubt see improvements in overall health, not just a lessening of the endometriosis symptoms.

However, be aware that this is book really falls under the self-published category, so you may find the few misspellings or the layout distracting. It's not your typical glossy cookbook with pictures or tabs categorizing types of recipes. But the point isn't to be pretty; it's to be informative.

5.0 out of 5 stars All my pain has gone!, April 1, 2010
I had a laparoscopy about 8 years ago and the doctor told me that it was the worse case he had ever seen in someone of my age and that I would never be able to conceive naturally. I have been on various medications over the years and still in constant pain, three times I was rushed into hospital where I had to stay in for a few days while they pumped painkillers into me.

Anyway after 8 years I had had enough and after seeing yet another specialist who gave me lots of options, none of them good, I decided I wanted to at least try another way. In desperation I looked again on the net and found out about the endo diet and came across this recipe book.

I have been on this diet for nearly 4 months now and for the last 2 months I have had NO pain, I even had a period and didn't even get a single cramp. I was amazed, stunned in fact. I have NO pain, and am taking NO medication... I didn't think I would ever be able to say that! I am so angry that none of the doctors ever mentioned changing my diet may help. Now I just want to shout it from the rooftops "don't take the pills, try the diet instead". This could have saved me so much pain and heartache if I had known about it years ago.

The advice and information, as well as the tasty recipes in this book and has completely change my life. Please try the diet if you are suffering from the dreadful pain of endometriosis.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too many inconsistencies, August 8, 2009
This review is from: Recipes for the Endometriosis Diet (Paperback)
I respect the author's work in providing a resource for those of us suffering from endometriosis and wishing to control it with diet, but this book is too full of frustrating inconsistencies for me to recommend it as a source.

Using this book, I was attempting to compile lists of foods that are beneficial and harmful for one suffering with endo; but several foods are mentioned in one section as okay to eat, and in another section as food to avoid. For example, this book repeatedly says to avoid wheat, but then lists bulger and tabbouleh as whole grain alternatives. Rye is also listed as an alternative to wheat, but then it is with wheat in the list of foods to avoid. I can't understand if it is meant to be a gluten-free diet, or just wheat free... it's never stated. Yogurt is another inconsistency. It is detailed in the foods to avoid page, along with dairy, and she even provides a recipe for an alternative nut yogurt, but then says that live yogurt is okay to eat, and is even beneficial. And, as another reviewer noted, the books says to avoid sugars and honey, but that maple syrup and rice syrup are okay... then never explains why they are okay and honey is not (but then 1/2 cup honey is used in the cranberry tea recipe).

I am also disappointed by some incomplete information and advice. On one page it says to "avoid toiletries that contain chemicals that mimic estrogen" but never are these chemicals listed. I think if you already on the endo diet, then there are probably some good recipes, but I wouldn't recommend using this book as a starting point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible book to deal with endo symptoms, April 24, 2010
This review is from: Recipes for the Endometriosis Diet (Paperback)
This book has all I was looking for (and more) and is really helping me follow the diet for endometriosis. I wanted healthy tasty recipes and this book has it covered with everything from drinks, main meals, desserts, baking and even some catering size recipes. The introduction was worth it alone for its explanation of what you can and cannot eat with explanations of why.

I have only been following this diet for little over 5 weeks and it is incredible. My pain has been reduced so much that I no longer need to take the pain medications. I feel much brighter, I have more energy and I can finally start to get back to something of a normal life, after suffering for years from this nightmare and having had 4 laparoscopies. The endo would improve after each surgery but it always came back. I could not see the point in going for further surgery in the future. I had to find another way, and amazingly something as basic as diet seems to be doing the trick. I really am very positive about the future now.

I thought that going wheat free would be difficult but this book has lots of recipes for alternatives and I can still eat some of my favourite meals like pasta dishes and there are recipes for baked items like muffins, cakes and breads. The other thing that really interested me was the author's guidance and advice about soy products like soy meat substitutes and soy milks. They are not good for you ladies, and I have read this somewhere else, but for women with endo then soy products need to be avoided.

So if you want a good book to help you control endometriosis then I can really recommend this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real life saver, November 19, 2009
By
This review is from: Recipes for the Endometriosis Diet (Paperback)
I bought this book despite the couple of negative comments and I am very glad that I did. The book has many delicious recipes and is clear to explain the reasons why you need to leave out particular foods. I have found that by returning to certain foods my symptoms will come back. But by staying on the diet I have found that I no longer need to use the pain meds - I used to be on the maximum dose. I did not think the diet would make so much difference, but it has. As well as reducing my symptoms I now have much more energy and my skin looks and feels great. This book even includes some delicious sweet recipes and having a sweet tooth, then this is great for me. Having this handy book, for which I am so grateful to have found and bought, has helped me hugely and I really do recommend this book.
