Bea Toms Recipes (f)rom (a) Country Cook. This lady could have made good use of an editor to put the brakes on an abundance of run-on sentences and tortured syntax, and to compile an index. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Recipe Book!, May 4, 2010
This review is from: Recipes from a country cook (Paperback)
My family and I use recipes out of this cookbook all the time and we're always surprised at how delicious every recipe turns out. Bea Toms is an amazing cook and her recipes are excellent. The other review has some truth - there are run on sentences and at times, you have to rely on your own cooking sense to complete the recipe. Throughout the stories and tidbits shared, it's clear that the focus of the book was for Ms. Toms to pass down her favorite time-tested recipes that have been in her family for generations or that she has personally created. It's a unique cookbook that is worth the investment.

Sometimes it's hard to know whether she's adding A to B or B to A. One recipe says add the parsley but doesn't list parsley in the ingredients. Many unprofessional, slangy and/or vague directions such as heat until "good and hot." Title would lead buyer to think he's getting country recipes, but there's nothing country about Beef Stroganoff -- and any cookbook that contains a recipe for a lime Jell-O mold should be avoided like the plague. I'm sure she's a nice lady but someone should have edited and kitchen-tested this stuff.
