Fine memento of a versatile artist, April 2, 2006
This review is from: Recital (Audio CD)
A lot has been said about Anna Moffo's early vocal decline and
mismanaged carreer but let's not forget what a lovely singer she
was in her prime. This recital from the early 1970's let us hear
"late Moffo" though she was not yet 40. There is a slight hoarseness
and unsteadiness in the voice that was not present in earlier recordings
but it is still by any means a beautiful instrument used with skill.
This recital also reminds us what a verstatile artist she was - she
sings arias from the italian bel canto and verismo repertoire, french
lyric and also german operettas and she passes from one to the other
with considerable naturalness, ease and charm.

A great artist, April 4, 2006
This review is from: Recital (Audio CD)
At her best, Anna Moffo was a truly superb performer, a jewel of the post-War Silver Age of singing.
As usual, my countryman M. Marleau is dead on target with his comments about this recording. But surely there is a disconnect between the favorable comments offered by the first reviewer and the miserly three stars he has awarded.

Anna Moffo Recital, February 9, 2006
This review is from: Recital (Audio CD)
This disc is a compilation of several recordings made by Anna Moffo in the early 70's for the German label Eurodisc. By then her voice was getting a little ragged around the edges, and lacked the purity and richness of her recordings of the 1960's. However, her darker and heavier sound works well on such old favorites as "Vissi d'arte" from Tosca, "Un Bel Di" from Madame Butterly, and "Depuis le Jour" from Louise. There are several operetta selections in addition to the opera arias. I would recommend this for serious Moffo fans only.
