5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, July 4, 1999

I am surprised at the limitd amount of Bromberg albums available on CD.This "album" is really a combinatin of two albums,my memory escapes me on the one title ,but I still have a very old copy of"BANDIT IN A BATHING SUIT",I may be wrong but I believe this was the last album before the band broke up. The band is so versitle, blues, country,Irish fiddle tunes, dixieland and rock combined . Every member of the band was given a chance to showcase his talents. I first saw the band at The Philadelphia Folk Festival many, many years ago and have enjoyed its music ever since. Hopefully some more albums will be released of this talented but sorely overlooked group. If you never heard The David Bromberg Band,by all means get this album post haste.

4.0 out of 5 stars Master of Versatility, April 19, 2003

You may listen to this album and find it hard to believe its all one band. How can one group of musicians _possibly_ produce dixieland, bluegrass, electric blues, Irish music, country, Delta blues, jazz, several flavors of rock, and God knows what else, and sound credible at all of them?

I don't know...all I know is that listening to this band is an incredible experience and an endless joy. The songs are good, the musicianship is incredible, and there is a feeling of fun, of feeling good, that suffuses everything they do.

I bought this CD after having "Reckless Abandon" on vinyl. Getting to know the other album, and it's a treat. One casualty of the jump to CD....the original cover of "Reckless Abandon" by B. Kliban was wonderful in itself. Its what led me to buy the vinyl album in the first place!

I only regret that I missed the chance to see this band live. I understand that Bromberg has retired from performing and recording. A great loss...must have been God's own bar band. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost an Old Classic, May 20, 2005
Well, I was looking to replace my vinyl copy of Reckless Abandon, and found this instead. I could kick myself in the arse for lending it out. Now I won't have a copy of "Beware, Brother, Beware" OR Stagger Lee. Damn. So, my review is thus: best muscianship you'll ever hear, delivered in a fun, funky and accessable style. Sort of like blues, bluegrass, Irish, rock n roll- all intermingled. Sigh....

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite!!, December 29, 1998

I have been waiting for what seems like an eternity for this album to be released on compact disc. I think it is the ultimate Bromberg album. It exhibits the kind of versatility in musicianship that only great bands like the David Bromberg Band could produce. Because of its versatility, this album expresses all kinds of emotions and musical styles from a traditional irish jig about the comradeship and bravery of men in battle to a melodic poignant story of a son's coming of age and leaving his parent's home to find his place in the world. It's definitely my favorite Bromberg album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beware, Brother Beware, August 14, 2001

I love it, BUT: it is missing "Beware, Brother Beware", a favorite of mine. I wonder why. However, I am very happy to have these classic, excellent Bromberg albums on CD. The sound quality is great (a pleasant improvement over the cassette tape made from my vinyl). I highly recommend it.

I was introduced to David Brombergs music some 21 years ago, over the years I have listened too as much of his music as I can find. I feel as though this album covers all the gamits of his music, congrats to Mr. Bromberg on another album that keeps his fans coming back for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars David Bromberg, got to know him, January 23, 2011
I have friends who like this, and those who really don't. David Bromberg has his own unique style, and if you have never heard him, I would suggest you view a couple of vids on one of the big online sites, or listen to some previews if provided here. Bromberg is a great guitarist. He likes to interject a bit of humor here and there. I might compare him to Leon Redbone in one regard-they are both unique-not alike, but both unlike anyone else out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites, July 12, 2007
David Bromberg at his best! I listened to these in the late seventies/early eighties and recently bought the CD's. What a pleasure to listen to them again. Bromberg is by far on of my top 5 favorite artist. Glad he is back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Missing "Beware" but still worth 5 stars, August 17, 2002
By
W. Randy Woodall (Lafayette, IN USA) - See all my reviews
Like another reviewer I was hugely dissapointed that "Beware, Brother, Beware" , which was originally on "Reckless Abandon" is not included in the cd. I too am at a loss as to why. It is one of his funkiest and funniest songs. That said, this combination of what were 2 albums by the David Bromberg Band still gets 5 stars for the many other variously energetic and poignantly beautiful songs.
I do hope that "Beware, Brother, Beware" will see cd light of day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Consummate blues!, June 20, 1998

This is my all-time favorite album. David Bromberg's style is unique. His music touches the soul. Good old-fashioned rowdy blues.
