Book Description

After rescuing a homeless teenager from a knife-wielding lunatic, and uncovering the secret of Mary, the spirit of a thief, trapped in St. Augustine's Old Jail for one hundred years, sixteen-year-old Jack Rackham puts to sea with his friends in search of another lost treasure, this time, aboard the magnificent schooner, Reckless Endeavor.

The voyage will take them through the treacherous waters of the Bermuda Triangle to the islands of the Bahamas and, eventually, Fishtail Cay, where the infamous cutthroats Calico Jack and Anne Bonny, with the help of the Rat Eaters, buried a fortune in Aztec gold three centuries ago. Hidden among the ingots and artifacts is the Serpent Dagger, an ancient relic embedded with the Wind Jewel of King Quetzalcoatl, which holds mystic powers for one brave enough to learn its secrets and defeat the tragedies of the past.

Calico Jack, hanged for piracy in 1720, crashes through the barriers of death and time to join his young descendant in the quest to claim the Aztec gold. His schemes will prove more diabolical and deadly than the teenaged adventurers are prepared to face and the painful brand of his curse will leave an indelible mark on one of them forever.

"A high seas page turner ... "

Author Mark LaFlamme

From the Inside Flap

From WORUMBO Author Mark LaFlamme:

As a reader, I made the same mistake I made when I began the first Jack Rackham Adventure - BAD LATITUDE - I assumed it was a book written largely for young people and that it would be short on grown-up chills. Again, I was wrong. The Hardy Boys, I'm afraid, would not last a night with Jack Rackham and his friends. In addition to high seas spooks - freak whirlpools and long-dead pirates rising from the mist - there are adult themes all over the place. Homelessness, loyalty, betrayal, love and greed among them. Ebright weaves them into his story without steering away from the action, and the result is a high-seas page turner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book by Dave Ebright! May 30, 2011
Format:Paperback
This book will keep you turning the pages; another great adventure for Jack Rackham and his friends! The author grabs you and makes you feel as though you're right there with the Rackham crew. Hang on, you're in for quite a ride (or should I say sail?).

Dave Ebright can spin a tale, or is it a tale at all? This is the second book I have read in the Jack Rackham Adventure series and truth be told, I can't wait for the third in the series. Dave tells a story that keeps the reader's turning the pages - I feel like I know the characters first hand. The plot, the adventures, the lessons Dave manages to wiggle into the story, all make this a fabulous series. I recommend it to one and all no matter what your age!
P.S. I am hoping for an invitation to the house in the Caribbean when it is completed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A high-seas page turner July 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
David Ebright knows sailing. He knows the value of young friendships and he sure as hell knows adventure.
In Reckless Endeavor all three are vital to the lives of Jack Rackham and his circle of friends. The adventure in particular is not slow to come. As he did with Bad Latitude, the first in the Jack Rackham line, Ebright gets right to it. He doesn't mess around with intricate knots or long looks at the weather forecast, he sails his readers right into the eye of the storm.
It starts with some history, a pair of pirates brutalized in wretched prisons hundreds of years back. In short order, that history will collide with modern day where Jack Rackham is just beginning a new adventure.
After rescuing a homeless teenager from a knife-weidling lunatic and uncovering the secret of Mary, the spirit of a thief trapped in St. Augustine's Old Jail for one hundred years, Jack Rackham puts to sea with his friends in search of another lost treasture, this time aboard the magnificent schooner, Reckless Endeavor.
As a reader, I made the same mistake I made when I began Bad Latitude - I assumed it was a book written largely for young people and that it would be short on grown-up chills. Again, I was wrong. The Hardy Boys, I'm afraid, would not last a night with Jack Rackham and his friends. Homelessness, loyalty, betrayal, love and greed are among them. Ebright weaves them into his story without steering away from the action, and the result is a high-seas page turner.
Ebright spins an impressive piece of fiction, but there is also a good bit of history to be found here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arrrrrg! A wild page turner, she be!! September 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Dave Ebright spins a tale for all ages....from historic St. Augustine, Florida to the Bahaman Islands. Ebright's attention to historic detail and brilliant imagery bring his characters, the Rackham family and friends, to life. The Rackhams find themselves on the sailing adventure of their lives as they encounter long lost dead relative, Cap'n Calico Jack Rackham. Who was Captain Jack Rackham? Good...bad...unfortunate victim? Find out! A true cliff hanger!!! I can't wait for the next in the Rackham series.

More About the Author

There's nothing like living in a haunted seaside town and since St Augustine is the oldest city in America, some of our ghosts go back hundreds of years. And with some of the most incredible beaches anywhere - it's the perfect summer hangout for my thrill-seeking grandson. He's really into surfing, fast boats, ghost hunting and learning the 'secrets' of the family trade. So what do I, a retired treasure hunter, do when he's not around? I write award-winning books for teens (and young-at-heart adults) sharing the chilling tales of Jack's summertime adventures.

Just wish he would stay away from dead folks - they tend to be dangerous.
