5.0 out of 5 stars A Fresh And Entertaining Read!!!
Ms. Drake is an amazing prolific writer who truly never fails to entertain when it comes to her storytelling. "Reckless" is a fresh new story that will take the reader from London to Egypt on an action packed romantic romp! Kat is on heroine that is not only sassy but also daring and perfect complement to the dashing Hunter.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fresh And Entertaining Read!!!, October 24, 2005
This review is from: Reckless (Hqn Books) (Hardcover)

Kat wants two things in life. The first is to finally be seen by the love of her life...David Turnberry. One rescue from the nasty Thames later, Kat thinks she will achieve her dream. But she finds herself in troubled waters when her life needs to be safely plucked from the river...by Hunter. Claiming amnesia Kat thinks it's her only way of finally getting her introduction. But, life gets in the way and this wily lady must come up with another means. After all she only has a week before her love leaves for Egypt and an archeological dig...and possible matrimony. Well, you should be careful in what you wish or you might just get it...Kat learns this the hard way but her long roundabout quest will lead her to the one man that truly is heroic and only wants what's good for her. But will she be wise enough to see this before it's too late?

Hunter doesn't know what the little minx's plan is but he tries to be one step ahead of her in any event. Not an easy task but one worth taking. When he finds himself calling her his fiancée in order to save her from trouble it's really only the first step on a grand escapade that even this experienced adventurer never counted on. Falling in love is never easy...specially when you're falling for a reckless hoyden.

"Reckless" is truly an entertaining read peppered with lively wonderful characters that spring from the pages. Ms. Drake has brought this time period to colorful life and I was truly sorry to have to say good-bye to Hunter and Kat. They were a fun couple and well matched. This is a great read to escape into and penned by one of my favorite authors!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Spectacular!!, July 28, 2006
This review is from: Reckless (Hqn Books) (Hardcover)
As an avid reader of everything Shannon Drake, I can honestly say that this book is well worth the five stars and all its praise. This was actually my first encounter with the shannon drake books, and it was a great start. I picked it up at the store to read as a way to pass time on a flight. I never put it down, instead I just kept re-reading it over and over till I could get to a bookstore and buy every shannon drake book they had.

Reckless has romance, mystery, adventure and really hot guys!! I would recomend however, that you read 'Wicked' first, because it gives you background info on some of the main characters and introduces them in a way that you might not get in Reckless, because its assumed that you know their relationships.

It takes place in London but quickly moves into the sands of Egypt. That really got me because Im Lebanese and the desert was beautiflly descripted and seemed so seductive!! Im hopelessly romantic so forgive me!!

also highly recomended:
Sieze the Dawn
Lion in Glory
Conquer the Night
Come the Morning
Wicked
Beguiled
Deep Midnight

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Reckless (Mass Market Paperback)
I may not be "old" enough to read this but not all kids have immature minds. A lot of them or some can handle mature content. And I am one of those people. I am mature enough for mature content. But anyway, Reckless is one of the best books I have ever read It is amazing and I became addicted to Shannon Drake, the magnificent and talented author. This book is amazing and a must read. I repeat this book, Reckless is a MUST READ!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Reckless, May 30, 2006
This review is from: Reckless (Mass Market Paperback)
When David fell into the Thames river, Kat dove in to save him and she manages to drag him to shore. She gazes at the man she has fancied herself in love with for so long. David opens his eyes and tells her he loves her. Although Kat is thrilled by his words, she realizes that David is not himself and most likely he does not mean what he says. Just then, David's soon to be fiancé, Margaret and her father, Lord Avery, as well as some of David's friends, arrive to help. Kat, embarrassed about her state of undress, dives back into the river.

Hunter dove in to help as well. He swims to shore then follows Kat back into the river, sure she will be too tired and need saving herself now, which she does as a result of his interference. On the way back to his town house Kat awakens but claims she does not remember who she is to keep her identity a secret from him, but Hunter sees through her ploy. After getting a bath and fresh clothing Kat sneaks out of Hunter' home to let her father know she is alright. Hunter follows her and he discovers her identity. When he tells Kat, she is embarrassed and angry.

Hunter and David along with Lord Avery and some others are sailing to Egypt on an archeological dig. Hunter asks Kat's father to allow her to accompany him as a secretary. Kat is thrilled to go so she can be close to David.

Lord Avery decides though, with the men all seeming to be smitten with Kat, he thinks it is a bad idea for her to come along. Hunter and Kat decide to fake an engagement to make things look proper then they all head off on the expedition.

Reckless offers a unique storyline. I feel that it teeters on the edge of something really cool, but it never really quite gets there. Kat and Hunter were constantly at odds which I found frustrating. Even when they made love they were at odds, both before and after. Individually they were attractive and interesting characters, they just didn't make a good match. Although I hoped it would, Reckless just didn't hold my interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd in Series is wonderful Egyptian dig mystery romance!, October 13, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Reckless (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the second in a series of 3 (and with the prequel, 4) Victorian era romances. They are When We Touch (prequel), Wicked, Restless and Beguiled. See my other reviews for their ratings. This one, Reckless, is the story of Sir Hunter MacDonald, friend of the Earl of Carlyle (whom we met in Wicked), and an adventurer and something of a rake (think a young Clark Gable). But he is also quite the hero and so when he sees a young woman dive into the Thames to save a young man he knows, David Turnberry, he dives in, too, and saves the lass after she saves Turnberry. Katherine ("Kat") Adair, oldest daughter of a gifted artist, has adored Turnberry from a distance for years, so though she's never met him, of course she just had to save him. She tries to convince Hunter she has amnesia to prolong her time with them, but he isn't fooled and yet he wants to help her. So he makes it possible for the commoner to meet both Turnberry and Lord Avery. As a result, they all adopt her and decide to take her on their planned expedition and dig in Egypt to be financed by Avery and the Earl of Carlyle. She'll be Hunter's assistant. And it is in the desert that treachery and a diabolical plot lurk to claim lives and threaten Kat. To protect Kat, Hunter agrees to become engaged to her...and then he weds her. It's just a business deal...or is it? What a great adventure this romance was and so well done! I felt like I'd traveled to Cairo with them and enjoyed it all! Well written, well researched and lively...I do recommend this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars exhilarating historical romantic suspense, September 5, 2005
This review is from: Reckless (Hqn Books) (Hardcover)
From the deck of her father's vessel the Promise, Katherine "Kat" Adair sees her beloved Lord David Turnberry fall from his ship The Inner Sanctum into the Thames; when no one reacts, she jumps and rescues him. However, before she can get back to her boat, she runs out of steam. Notorious rake Lord Hunter Macdonald sees the two "fools", jumps in, and saves her life though she refuses to acknowledge he did. Afterward David insists someone deliberately pushed him into the river.

Hunter asks Kat's father, an artist, whether his daughter can join an Egyptian archeological expedition. He agrees, but she becomes concerned when she hears rumors of some dying on their last trek. When Hunter learns that David wants to make Kat his mistress, he decides to protect her by naming her as his fiancée. In the Sahara someone tries to abduct Kat with only Hunter keeping her safe. She falls in love with her heroic rescuer who feels the same way as they search for items of antiquity while trying to uncover who is behind the deadly attacks on this expedition and the previous one.

This is an exhilarating historical romantic suspense due to the RECKLESS antics of the heroine who dives head first into dangerous situations that forces her champion to keep rescuing her. The story line is action-packed but brings out the English Egyptology period during the reign of Queen Victoria especially in Egypt. Fans of nineteenth century adventure romances will appreciate Shannon Drake's tense thriller.
