5.0 out of 5 stars Yahoo serious is a great actor/comedian! He's orginal!
This is a good funny film, not the funniest film of all time, but definetly worth your time! Yahoo serious is a great actor/comedian/writer/director, and he's smart and sexy! He kind of reminds me of the classic Buster Keaton. His work is very orginal and maybe ahead of our time. Maybe in the future his work will be better appreciated and respected. His films, including this one, Reckless Kelly, are orginial and not the gross out recycled moronic [stuff] Hollywood fodder, for example American Pie, Scary Movie 2, and Say it isn't so, just to name a few. Bravo for Yahoo Serious, god bless him! I hope he continues to make wonderful films, and that he has more success and money heading his way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Your Motor Runnin'!, July 7, 2000

This movie is great! In ways, it is even funnier than "Young Einstein" and has some fabulously funny scenes and lines. What other movie has two nieve "fans" buying semi-automatics and man targets in a Hollywood supermarket, uses "You keep in Touch" and "Go take a meeting" as fodder for a press-junket shouting match, and of course, has Shakepeare as a plot point for a B-movie? It's even funnier when you think back to the media blitz that Yahoo was in the middle of in 1989--some of what he undoubtedly experienced and felt is probably represented here.

Yahoo's work is that of a highly observant satirist--check it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, August 18, 1999

When Reckless Island, the home of the Kelly Gang, is threatened by Corporate Bankers, Ned Kelly flies to the United States to steal $1 million to buy back the island himself. Wonderfully directed by by Yahoo Serious. Great performances by Yahoo Serious and Melora Hardin and a good soundtrack, 'Reckless Kelly' is a movie that everyone will enjoy. I certainly did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not your usual movie, May 4, 2006
This review is from: Reckless Kelly [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Reckless Kelly is pretty much on par with Young Einstein, although a bit more juvenile in places. I really liked both of these films and I think it is important to remember that these were independently made and not just churned out by a studio. Yes the humor is puerile and juvenile for the most part, yes the story doesn't make a lot of sense if you look at it too closely. However, as a just for fun film it can be entertaining. Reasons to like this film? Eye candy. Cute animals. Random sound effects. Fun music. There are also some interesting plot themes such as the Kelly Gang, the animal sanctuary, towing the island to Japan and the video store location, not to mention Shakespeare. There are funny throw away gags and although some of the humor is as I mentioned previously there are quite a few levels of humor running throughout. The Brit bashing is so over the top that you can't really take it seriously, having the bad guy be British is obviously a convenient plot device and this IS an Australian film so it isn't totally without context. There are plenty of jokes which make fun of Hollywood and the So Cal social scene, not to mention the expectations of movie goers in general. So basically, taken as a regular film it is simple with a weak plot and low humor, however taken as an example of alternative film it offers a fun lightweight story that makes fun of making movies and has many layers of humor. Most of all it doesn't take itself seriously. It even pokes fun at itself. Check the name on the box again if you aren't certain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny while making several political statements, December 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Reckless Kelly [VHS] (VHS Tape)
After living in Australia for a year, I not only thought the movie was very funny but has some serious undertones about the politics for the day. It is politically incorrect in many ways which is part of it's charm and wit.

3.0 out of 5 stars A funny movie, November 22, 1998

The movie starts out to be even better than the Young Einstein movie, but slows down a bit. But the movie is still typical Yahoo Serious, and hillarious. If you liked Young Einstein, you must see this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good!, August 20, 2011

Jack Flack (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
As with all Yahoo Serious movies, it's a bit uneven, but still a very entertaining movie that pokes fun at politics and Hollywood. The soundtrack is awesome, one of the best pop soundtracks ever done.
