Somewhere in Time Trailer

These are very good times for Reckless Kelly. With the release of Bulletproof in 2008, the Austin-based roots-rockers known for the integrity of their musical approach, the hard-core energy of their live shows and the fierce loyalty of their fans, turned up the intensity on their career. The album quickly became their biggest seller, hitting the Billboard 200 and reaching the Top 25 of the ... Read more in Amazon's Reckless Kelly Store

Product Description

Reckless Kelly Was Here is a recorded event that - in addition to being welcomed by the band's rabid, very loyal, and rowdy fan base - provides folks a chance to see and hear what Texas Music is, and what ''Getting Reckless!'' is really all about! Recorded on March 31, 2006 at La Zona Rosa, Austin, Texas, this taut live set highlights the Austin quintet's energetically brash blend of tequila-soaked vocals, blistering guitars, driving rhythm, and infectious melody. In addition to capturing their live charisma, the accompanying DVD also spotlights Reckless Kelly's penchant for comedy with hilarious bonus footage that includes ''Reckless Kelly's Tips From The Road!'' Includes two new studio tracks: 'Break My Heart Tonight' and 'Wiggles & Ritalin'.

As is true with so many roots-rocking bands based in Austin, Texas, a sweaty club brings out the rambunctious best in Reckless Kelly, giving them a chance to stretch out and let loose on their first live recording. From the pulverizing opener of "Sixgun," which owes as much to AC/DC as the roadhouse, through the new party anthem, "Wiggles & Ritalin," and the reflective, acoustic "Wicked Twisted Road," the band feeds on the call-and-response energy of the hometown crowd and pays it back. The set offers tribute to Lone Star natives Alejandro Escovedo ("Castanets") and the Texas Tornados ("Guacamole"), as well as farther-flung inspirations such as Richard Thompson ("1952 Vincent Black Lightning") and the Beatles (a bluesy "Revolution"). "Baby's Gone Blues" begins as a riff-rocking piledriver and ends as a fiddle-driven breakdown, an encapsulation of the musical progression embodied within the band. On twangier fare such as "Nobody's Girl," frontman Willy Braun could pass as a vocal ringer for Steve Earle. --Don McLeese

4.0 out of 5 stars A poor sound mix August 15, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Ok, I'm first, I lead off with that I love this band, I don't think they can be beat in todays music market, lots of energy, great song writing ability, masters of their insturments and they seem to really like each other, that's important, I loved the selection of songs and the home town crowd had them fired up, the sound?, well the guitars, fiddles and all came through like a champ! but the vocals, now I think Willy Braun is one of the best, I think he could sing just about anything and do a first class job of it, my gripe is, who mixed the vocal mike?, it sounds like it is at half volume, Willie's voice is drowned out by the band most of the time,If I didn't know the words to some songs already it would have been worse, I made changes to my set up and could only improve it a little, how could this error, that sticks out like a sore thumb, get passed over?, very disapointing. The video came through very strong, my hats off the the camera men, good job! I wish I could give this 5 stars, but I can't, this error ruins it. #2, well the recording of "Revolution" is the best I've ever heard!, man, it drives! it cooks!, Willy is at his best!, but David, man, you must have "blisters on your fingers!", your axe is on fire!, Lennon would have loved this!, why?, because it is real rock and roll!, this band is the tightest of any I've heard since the golden age, the 60's and early 70's, keep it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Steal Of A Deal December 8, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Reckless Kelly Was Here is a great live album. If you're new to the band, it serves as a great introduction, giving you all of their biggest songs. You also get a look at one of their high energy live shows. For those who are already fans, this is also a must own. You get two new songs, plus the previously unreleased cover of 1952 Vincent, which is worth the price alone. The real draw, however, is the live DVD. It's a great performance by a great band. As mentioned by other reviewers, the vocals could have been louder on the recording, but its not a major issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reckless Kelly rocks July 4, 2011
By Jen
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Reckless Kelly is one of those great bands who sound as good live as they do on their studio albums. (You find a lot of great live bands in Texas music and Red Dirt music - check them out.) A couple of reviewers have mentioned the sound on this recording, and they're right that it could have been much better...yet if you listen to MP3 songs and you like them, you will still enjoy this. I can see how a true audiophile might be bothered, but if I couldn't hear Willy Braun's vocals, I'd give this 1 star, not 5. RK's performance is highly energetic and entertaining, and it's darn good. You also get 18 outstanding songs for your money here, plus a DVD. That's a pretty good deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rockin' live album August 30, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Like the other reviewers, I LOVE Reckless Kelly and cherish my copy of their original live album, "Live at Stubbs". The vocals on Reckless Kelly Was Here aren't quite as strong as some of their others, but if you're looking to recreate some of their rockin' live show energy in your living room, you can't go wrong with this CD set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Mess With Reckless March 25, 2008
Format:Audio CD
This CD set cover their best rock and country songs that they do. They start off with a high energy Six Guns tune that gets ya in the mood then progressively go slower in the songs till they build ya back up at the end with Crazy Eddie's Last Hurrah. Great CD's Highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Live Reckless Kelly Live! August 21, 2006
Format:Audio CD
This disk captures the full throttle experience that is a Reckless Kelly show. Their own material continues to shine, their cover of Thompson's 1952 Vincent Black Lightening almost rates a 5 star just by itself. If you wish to introduce yourself or others to Reckless, this is the album to get. And if you want to reintroduce yourself to how very good they are, this is the album to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it. June 17, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Love this live album from RK, I would recommend it to anyone who likes this kind of music. I wish it was just one CD, as two CD sets are just a pain to me as I'm a dinosaur and still listen to actual Cd's in my car. The DVD is cool though, I've bought a couple of Albums that include a DVD of the concert and I like having that option. But anyway, the music is great, buy it if you can.

This thing sounds like it was recorded using one mic covered by a blanket. Maybe because they just used the 5.1 sound and didn't adjust it for normal playback? Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Husband Likes, I don't
My husband wanted this CD and loves it. I don't particularly care for it. It has an odd type of music for me. Not quite country, not rock.
