Editorial Reviews

2010 debut album from the Finnish Rock 'n' Rollers. With its rousing and joyful attitude, the band offers a true alternative for today's Rock scene where everything seems too dull, dark and serious. Reckless Love's formula is simple; big Hard Rock just for the fun of it! The band was founded in 2001 and started to gradually gain underground reputation as an energetic live act. Eight years of small scale touring, two line-up changes and four demos later the band finally took its current form and found its own recognizable sound. In the spring of 2009 Reckless Love started recording its debut album and signed a world wide record deal with Universal Music.

The first exposure I had to Reckless Love was seeing Beautiful Bomb on Youtube. I heard the song once, and I thought these guys gotta be awesome. Well, I was right. Reckless Love literally blew me away after just one listen. I could have sworn I died and went to hair-metal heaven. I had no idea bands like this still existed, and what's more exciting is, there are a bunch more 80's inspired bands coming out these days.

From the opening riff of Feel My Heat, the listener realizes they are in for an up-tempo, good-time rock 'n' roll roller coaster ride. One More Time, Badass, Love Machine and Born To Rock are other highlights that immediately get stuck in your head. Every single song on this disc could be a massive radio hit, the problem is, radio doesn't play great music like this anymore. This is nothing short of a tragedy in my mind, a band this talented should be headlining areans, not local clubs or bars.

Ollie Herman is the former front-man from Crashdiet, after one listen to this album, you realize he took a much different approach to Reckless Love's debut record. The record isn't as sleazy as Unattractive Revolution, or as heavy, but what it lacks in sleaze and hard edge, it more than compensates with catchy choruses and fast-hitting riffs. The entire album is golden, and that is coming from a huge skeptic, who never thought they would hear anything that rivaled late 80's early 90's hard rock.

I can't reccommend this record enough. Go buy it now!!! Bands like this deserve our support for bringing back real rock music. I have only heard this album from Ollie Herman, but he has climbed the ladder of my favorite frontmen very rapidly, and I hope this is only the beginning.

`Reckless love' is a debuting-80s influenced- hard rock band from Finland. The group is led by Olli Herman Kosunen the former lead vocalist of Swedish sleaze metal powerhouse "Crashdiet", having replaced the deceased Dave Leppard and sung on their second studio album "The unattractive revolution" (at the time he was known and credited as Oliver Twisted).

Undeniably the major exposure that Olli received as a member of `Crashdiet' led to `Reckless love' also being signed by `Universal music' which I suppose is an incredible complement, particularly for a debuting act.

One must insist on the fact that `Reckless love' follows a very different musical direction than Olli's precious band: Most would agree that `Crashdiet' is positioned as a SLEAZE metal band with tons of attitude, equally influenced by European and American hair metal; `Reckless Love' on the other hand is GLAM metal with 100% American sound. Specifically `Recless...' sounds like 1984-era `Van Halen' (it is no secret that Olli's primary influence is David Lee Roth) and a bit like early `W.A.S.P.' on their harder songs.
So to close this part, "Reckless Love" is much more positive and romantic than "Crashdiet" still equally as energetic and confident.

In terms of quality there is not a single song that slips up. `Romance' is melodic drama of a track with a classic chorus, `Beautiful bomb' is the playful and super catchy radio hit reminding one too much of VH's `Jump'; the emotionally charged `Wild touch' is a testament to `W.A.S.P."'s `Love machine'. Never forgetting `Back to paradise' a potential club/disco hit that has `Kiss' written all over it.

Of course the above are just a few of an amazing collection of songs that `Reckless love' offer us. For a fan of the American glam metal sound, this is heaven sent! If you are a fan of Hair metal or 80s hard rock in general you will not regret getting `Reckless love'.

How lucky I was to have grown up as a kid during the glam-metal days of the late 1980's. Bands like Poison, Skid Row, G n R, Def Leppard, Whitesnake....the list could go on and on. Back in the days when rock music was fun, melodic, and not bogged down with angst and pretension.

This album sounds as if it could have been recorded in 1988, and from the moment you hear the opening track, "Feel My Heat," it brings back a warm feeling of nostalgia. Other highlights include "One More Time" and "Beautiful Bomb" but really all of the tracks are excellent. What's even better is the fact that the band does not sound as if they are trying too hard. They sound like they are having a great time, and so will you during this listening experience.

An album like this will come along every so often and remind us just how good this type of music can sound when it is done right. "Reckless Love" has put a big grin on my face, as it has restored my faith in sensible, melodic hard rock once again, and brought me back to a time in my life when music was exciting.

This is the third time in recent memory this has happened: an obscure Scandi band pops up and releases a debut album in the AOR genre that isn't just the best of the year, but among the best ever.

The first time was Brother Firetribe, doing late eighties, Van Halen styled keyboard rock; the second was H.E.A.T., with a sound close to the band Europe in their AOR heyday. Both of those bands couldn't keep up the pace: the followup albums, pure examples of the sophomore jinx, were nowhere near the quality of the amazing debuts.

Reckless Love, however, might just have the staying power those bands lack, for one reason: the lead singer here is not just good, but great, and he is the main man of the band and involved heavily in the writing process. Reckless Love has consistently terrific vocal melodies and spot-on, often hilarious, lyrics for this type of music.

I bring this up only because the history of these Scandinavian bands fading away after great debut albums is the only thing keeping me from being completely enthused about this bunch. This record, more in the Motley Crue style of AOR (sleazy, no keyboards), is the best record I have heard this year, or in several years. If not for Whitesnake and Virgin Steele, both of whom did some classier, keyboard plus blues guitars type of sleaze metal, I would rate this the best sleaze metal album ever made. Hard as it might be to believe, it's way better than anything Crue, Guns and Roses, or Van Halen ever did. It is at least as good as, say, Back in Black or Pyromania. If this was 1985, half the songs on this album could be top 5 hits, and the other half could be top 40 hits; there's only one track I would consider filler and even that track is good.
