5.0 out of 5 stars action-packed romantic suspense thriller, June 29, 2008
This review is from: Reckless (Mass Market Paperback)
Atlanta attorney Kell Jameson left her hometown Hallden and the orphanage she grew up in behind; vowing never to return. However, the only person she would go back to help needs her and she is summoned back to her hometown after years of running away since the fiery incident back in 1991 broke up the Three Musketeers (Kell, Fin and Julia). Mrs. Faraday, the kind head of the orphanage where she lived, is accused of murder.

Sheriff Luke Calder investigates the homicide of a local drug dealer. He stops Kell for a traffic violation, but she flees the scene. Luke follows Kell to the diner where he hands her the tickets and asks her out. As they work the case and related matters, they fall in love. However besides the commute, Kell fears telling him the truth because she needs to protect Fin Borders and Julia Warner and believes he will not just reject her when he learns her darkest secrets from 1991 he will expose them.

RECKLESS is an action-packed romantic suspense thriller that sets the tone of the story line with its 1991 prologue and never slows down afterward. The cast is strong as it brings to life small town Georgia even some players from the past and from beyond. However, the tale is owned by the feisty courageous yet vulnerable heroine who finds love with the one person who can destroy her. Selena Montgomery allows her recovery specialists to rest (see SECRETS AND LIES, and HIDDEN SINS) with an entertaining regional thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Selena Montgomery does it again..., October 24, 2008
This review is from: Reckless (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Montgomery sets herself apart, oncemore, as an awesome writer. I've read every Montgomery novel and must say this is my favorite (so far). Readers can truly identify with these well developed characters. I felt like I was discovering the answers to the mystery right along with the guarded, sexy defense attorney and the chiselled, secretive police chief. I'm still sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the remaining two novels in what promises to be an outstanding trilogy!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable but incomplete, July 13, 2008
This review is from: Reckless (Mass Market Paperback)
Kell Jameson is a hugely successful defence lawyer, independent and smart, who has made something of herself since her youth as an orphan living in rural Georgia. Eliza, when the lady who brought her up, contacts Kell for help, Kell responds immediately and travels to Hallden to help investigate a murder. Eliza knows that there's a lot of evidence that suggests she killed drug dealer Clay Griffin, and indeed she visited him the night he died, but she didn't actually kill him.

When Kell arrives in Hallden she bumps into the Sheriff, Luke Calder, and there's an instant attraction. However Kell can't be open with him and has to lie on occasion to protect her client - can they have a future when it's hard to trust each other. Luke and Kell, searching for evidence to clear Eliza, start to uncover something very big. Luke's also finding the local Police Chief Graves causing him difficulties over jurisdiction. Can Kell keep Eliza safe, can Luke persuade Kell to trust him, can they find out what really happened?

This book was well written with a good plot and a variety of characters. Kell herself was often difficult to like, although that didn't seem a problem for Sheriff Luke Calder. The mixture of courtroom stuff, police investigation and romance was well balanced and interesting. However I was very disappointed, at the end of the book, to discover that the story was in no way rounded off; I understand the author is writing more books about these events from the viewpoints of Kell's friends but it meant that this story seemed just stop with minimal resolution. It was a disappointment after the events appeared to be leading up to a grand showdown with the underlying events being revealed. There were also one or two plot unlikelihoods, such as Kell and the Sheriff stumbling on a secret location important to the story and also a potential client of Kell's keeping faith with her and agreeing to pay her more when she's significantly messed about by Kell.

Overall I enjoyed this book but was very disappointed that the story didn't adequately conclude and would have appreciated some hint of this on the back cover.

A romantic suspense thriller that is a great read. Lawyer Kell Jamison and Sherrif Luke Calder heat up the pages not only with romance but with a great plot as well. It's good to read a romance that is more plot driven. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait for the second and third books in this trilogy. It left me wanting more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Thrilling Tale of Romance and Danger, July 29, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Reckless (Mass Market Paperback)
Selena Montgomery tantalizes her readers with yet another thrilling tale of romance and danger intertwined. I read this book in less than one day. Lawyer Kell and the Sheriff Luke are well-developed characters with interesting roles and hot romance in a book that is a great read in itself. I can't wait until the next installment of the goings on in this small Georgia town.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Keeps you reading, July 29, 2008

Selena Montgomery has done it again! Her ability to cross genres and to skillfully weave together plot elements reminds me of why "Secrets & Lies" and "Never Tell" are two of my favorite books. In "Reckless" we meet the first of three heroines who are tied to a dark secret that could ruin their lives. Kell Jameson is an attorney who must defend her Eliza Faraday, accused of a drug dealer's murder. But the murder may have more to do with Kell's past, and she has to save Mrs. F while protecting herself from the investigation. Part crime solver, part legal thriller - this book is all suspense. Can't wait for book 2!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Definite Must Read!!!!, March 10, 2010
This review is from: Reckless (Mass Market Paperback)
Selena Montgomery has spun a great tale. The characters have real issues and real chemistry. Kell Jameson is an amazing heroin that is strong, smart and beautiful. Luke Calder is kind, caring, brave, smart and handsome. The chemistry Kell and Luke have seems to leap from the pages of the book.
The love scenes could have been more descriptive but overall the book was excellent. This is my first book by Selena Montgomery but it will not be my last. Great Read.
