About the Author

Amy Miles was born and raised in a military family but has now settled with her husband and son in South Carolina. She is also the author of Defiance Rising and Reckoning. To learn more about her and her books, visit AmyMilesBooks.com

More About the Author

Author Amy Miles has always been a bit of a dreamer. Growing up as an only child, and a military brat to boot, she spent countless hours escaping into the pages of a book, only to spend the following days creating a new idea of how to twist up the story to make it unique.

Since becoming a mother, Amy has slowly nourished her love of the written word while snatching writing time in the midst of soiled diapers, tumbling over legos and peering around mounds of laundry and dishes that never seem to go away. Once her only son started school, Amy was free to let her fingers dive into dark mythology, tales of betrayal and love, and explore human nature in its rawest form. Her love of seeing the world from a different angle bloomed.

Amy is the author of several novels, including her popular young adult immortal books, The Arotas Series, which are an Amazon and iBooks bestselling series. Unwilling to be defined by any one genre, she proceeded to flip over to a science fiction/fantasy based idea with her Rising Trilogy. She then dove into contemporary romance with her novel, Captivate and explored the depths of her own faith with In Your Embrace.

She is currently working on completing her Immortal Rose trilogy, a prequel to her Arotas novels. She has also embarked on two new journeys this year, one in the form of a co-written banshee trilogy, The Hallowed Realms, which is currently represented by GH Literary and she breached another genre with her upcoming adult horror novel, Wither.

After reading Forbidden, Book #1 in this series, I was excited to dig into Reckoning. Though the story had many great moments and I will read the next book to see what happens, there were some things in this book that I considered a let-down after finding book #1 so enjoyable.

The story picks up where the battle at the end of the first book left off. During the aftermath of the battle, Gabriel is kidnapped and Roseline sets off to find him with the help of her friends, both old and new. When the mysterious Malachi enters the picture, Roseline starts to question more about her past, the past of the Immortals and the role that Gabriel plays. Throughout their journey, the battle rages between factions ending with a climactic event and a twist that I certainly didn't see coming.

What I loved:

The end of the book. And I don't mean that facetiously. *grins* I was completely thrown at the end of the book by the unexpected twist. It made me want to see what happens in Book #3.

What I liked:

I liked that the story was fast-paced and thrust you directly into the action. There was much more going on than in the first book and you got to learn more about the past of the Immortals, which I thought was pretty cool. I liked how Nicolae and Roseline formed a truce in order to overcome their common enemies. I like that we got to see a tougher side of Roseline, but...

What I didn't like:

I didn't like that I felt like Roseline's switch was stuck in permanent "I must be a bad-ass" mode. The depth and layers that I loved about her character in the first book I felt were lacking in this book. When other emotions did show, I felt like the moments were fleeting.

From book 1, Forbidden, I was hooked on these characters. This book takes us through the next journey for Roseline, Gabriel, Sadie, William, Nicholae, Fane and so many more. It seems most books I've read there is a character I could do without and skip over. Not true with this book. Amy Miles could of written even more regarding each character and I would of followed along. In Reckoning, we truly get to see Roseline heartbroken, tested, on the brink of death and recover to take care of some centuries-long revenge that was past due. There is a mixture of tense, sad, exciting and even funny LOL moments. There is so much happening in this book you won't be bored and I know that I'll be very impatient waiting on book 3 to come out. Thank you Amy for another exciting adventure with these characters!

I am an avid reader, and I love this genre/style of books, but all I can say about this book is that it isn't memorable. When your two main characters aren't even together throughout the entire book it just reads very bland, no matter how many battles or action there is. I read it over a week ago and when I was notified of it again last night I had to go and re-read the synopsis to even remember what the plot of the book was. I think I learned more from the synopsis than the entire book offered on some information and there are still a lot of things I don't understand at all. I'm sure I will read the rest of the series just to see how it continues/ends and hope that the next book will redeem the series from this one.

The spelling and grammar in this story made it very difficult to keep reading.  Nicholae was spelled three different ways on one page alone.
