For centuries food has been cooked in earthenware pots over open fires or in brick ovens. Römertopf carries on this tradition by crafting clay pots and dishes specifically intended for cooking a variety of vegetables, meats, casseroles, and breads in the home oven. Manufactured in Mexico, each vessel is made from unglazed and porous terra cotta containing no lead or cadmium. Before each use, the pot is soaked in water in order to absorb a certain amount of moisture into the permeable clay. This moisture is slowly released during cooking, sealing in the natural juices and increasing the flavor and tenderness.

Decorated with a garlic motif, the Römertopf garlic keeper is ideal for storing multiple heads of the aromatic bulb. Standing 4-1/2 inches tall and measuring 4-3/4 inches wide, this round vessel contains a detachable lid and helps the garlic last longer by keeping the cloves in darkness, yet letting in a certain amount of air. Römertopf recommends washing all clay pots by hand. Due to their porous and unglazed nature, the pots should not be exposed to extreme temperature changes. --Lea Werbel

With room for a few heads (or bulbs) of garlic this keeper is attractive looking, well made, properly ventilated, and contains the papery mess that would otherwise occur in storage. Not much else to say!

We have had this garlic keeper for awhile now and we still love it! I had tried two other keepers before I found this one, and ended up returning both. Unlike many others this one has a nice wide opening which makes it easy to take garlic in and out of. It easily holds at least 3 large heads of garlic. This keeper also has a good amount of ventilation and looks great sitting on the counter.
