4.0 out of 5 stars Great game, few problems.
I think Recoil is a good game with lots of fun and thrilling action. It has superb graphics, even with its low system requirements. It could be sayed no better than "Action gaming as it should be." With a ton of weapons, enimies and enviroments, this Tank simulation is as good as it gets, besides one thing. The levels can get a bit long at times.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good game but could be better
Recoil has great graphics, excelent weapons, and moderate gameplay. Recoils graphics are realy good even in software rendard version, the levels are very detailed so are the tanks and robots. Recoil has great graphics, excelent weapons, and moderate gameplay. Recoils graphics are realy good even in software rendard version, the levels are very detailed so are the tanks and robots. The enemies are ok and they actualy come at you with the same weapons as you use. The movie cutscenes are horibly lame so skip them. The weapons ,on the other hand, are immence and explosions are very good. Gameplay however is not that good the missions are to similar (you blow up all the enemies, smash into the weapons factory, generator, ect. and blow it up) pretty dull. You can save mid-mision but you cant go back and replay any of the missions. If you want A good first/third person shooter dont ignore recoil but its not the best either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, January 25, 2004
This review is from: Recoil (CD-ROM)
This ame is an excellent FPS and has the military type 'find a weakness' ring to it. Instead of allowing anyone to blast everything up at once, it forces the person to find the correct methods to destroy the diabolical machine in front of the Battle Force Tank. With almost all the kinds of weapons a game freak can demand, it allows anyone to choose his/her type of explosive. Right from mines and lasers to nuclear bombs. The storyboard is also well developed as, unlike other games, it introduces 4-6 missions in one location and also emphasises pick-up and transport aspects of the game. It doesn't, for example, cart you aroung to an hundred locations, each to blast one enemy building. It has given the right definition to its six "campaigns" by introducing 4-6 objectives in one campaign, including getting aboard the transport ship (which is generally shdowed by other games). My only regret is that there are only six campaigns.
To round off, the gameplay is interactive and each of the enemy installations have been give their distinct character, as well as their own uniqueness.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good old fashion computer fun, November 29, 2010

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Recoil (CD-ROM)
It was a game from back when I used to have Windows Millennium Edition. I used to play Shogo, Doom 95, Wolfenstein 3D and Need for Speed 3. I liked the dark atmosphere this game had, it really submerged me in this dystopian future to the likes of Twisted Metal.

I hope the $164.98 price is a joke from Amazon, I'm surprised they also list it on the "new" section as low as $68.88. As good as the game is, it shouldn't be more expensive than your average casino or hunting PC games at Walmart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gives modern games a run for the money, March 7, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Recoil (CD-ROM)
While relatively simplistic, the story is enough to motivate you through the more action/adventure challenges and there are some details (if you pay attention) hinting at larger, more serious topics (like the genocide of the human race, though why more dramatic attention isn't given to this I don't know). The hackers who give the briefings between missions may be a little corny, but nothing that can't be forgiven.
Story: 7/10

It's not going to be stellar by anybody's measure anymore, and I suspect that more people will have issues with compatibility back this far than having strong enough hardware, but the environments are fairly intricate yet believable and the objects - between enemies and the relatively fluid transformations of your tank - all work well enough.
Graphics: 6/10

This won't make anyone jump out of their seat, but it fits the sci-fi setting throughout. As with other games, some effects fit better than others and I think the ambience could have been filled out better, but it gets the job done.
Sound: 6/10

The music was forgettable, but at least it wasn't annoying.
Music: 5/10

The mission play is where Recoil truly shines. Fast and fluid, provided you have the upgrades your tank will automatically transform to best allow you to traverse whatever environment you need, be it lava around a geothermal power plant, moats around a fortified factory, or arctic waters in search of a hidden research base. Hotkeys easily allow you to flip back and forth through your veritable arsenal of weapons to dispatch a surprisingly wide variety of enemies. After having played this, you may wonder what happened to the disjointed play of many modern action/shooter games.
Gameplay: 8.4/10

To be honest, this game isn't long enough to keep you for very long, and there are no rewards beyond the credits for beating the game - you can use debugging to give yourself free health refills or all weapons in the start, but as fun as the play is it doesn't have the sheer variety really hold you in.
Replayability: 1/10

The difficulty you might have in getting a computer compatible also means that a rent is out of the question and a buy is uncertain unless you're an avid shooter/action fan and fairly certain you can play it. Make no mistake, this game is FUN, but it's no longer in its prime. If your computer is compatible you'll likely enjoy it, if not then peruse for the next in first/third person vehicle-based shooter, adventure, and action.
Overall: 7.5/10
