From School Library Journal
As one of the only authoritative sources of bibliographic information about recent Spanish-language publications written in English, Schon's titles have no rival. The content is exhaustive. The organization is impeccable and the scope is ambitious. For librarians attempting to build collections from scratch, this book is a must. For those looking to enhance and refresh existing collections, it will be most useful. However, there are a few weaknesses worth mentioning. The publishers included are predominantly from Spain, and there are many wonderful publishers in Latin America that are not represented. For librarians attempting to gear their collections to reflect user populations from Mexico or Central America, this source will need to be supplemented. Another feature is the wide representation of North American publishers offering translations of English-language publications. These books tend to be of high quality yet too often fail to reflect the typical Hispanic-American user community. When they do offer "ethnic" content, it tends to focus on the folkloric and colorful (as opposed to the realistic). Lastly, the appended listing of dealers is highly selective and offers no explanation.

...an excellent book for the public and school librarian...will make a difference between shelves with no books to serve Latino children and a long-standing relationship with young readers who deserve the best of books. (

Isabel Schon is unrivaled in producing work (over 20 books to date) that fills the professional void in the area of finding books in Spanish...a must for anyone interested in adding Spanish language books to a collection or in choosing books to use in the classroom or for story hours. Nothing else compares to Schon's work on juvenile literature of Latino cultures. (
