If you like bad post apocalyptic movies you might like this movie. When I rented it I expected bad acting, cheesy effects and lame story... I was not wrong in my expectations. Like most low budget films this film relies on excessive use of camera filters and effects.

The earth has been destroyed by a mysterious alien race called the Ma'hars. Using stolen alien technology mankind has ventured into space and vows to get its revenge against a race that can pass through various dimensions and have Grays probed people to death. This is the first of three in a campy series of films and admittedly the weakest one in group. In this film their task is to go to a distant colony and investigate what is going on. They are lead by Sgt. Sharp (Andy Bradshaw) who frequently confound his sayings. For instance when a marine complains he says: "Want some milk to go with that tea?"

In future episodes the monsters get campier and the women lose their clothes. This episode introduces the characters as they battle robots, werewolves, zombies, and a multi-headed thing.

3 stars as an introduction. As a stand alone film, it leaves much to be desired.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. Brief sex and nudity (Heidi Hawkins).

If you like low-end production values, you'll love this collection of clippings from the floor of the editing room.

I gave it two stars because someone so obviously did a public service by hiring starving film students to make this school project, and because of the assault by a giant Unidentified Mammary Object in the first minute of the film, and because a couple of the CG effects didn't completely suck, unlike the acting, which really, really sucked.

I was able to watch five minutes before closing the window on this one, having glimpsed the hideous monster lurking in the shadows of my Unbox player progress bar. Five minutes. Even Radioactive Dreams held my interest longer than that.

I could go on and on, but allow me to sum it up: "Craptastic!"

I love to listen to commentary, but to hear it on such a low budget film gives you a sense of appreciation upon rewatching a 0-1 star film. you want to make a film and you have $$$ vs. $$$$$$ (or $$$$$ vs $$$$$$$$)to make not cheesy looking costumes, scenery, etc. the drop ship scene was filmed in an apartment for heavens sake. wanting to film, to act, to direct... its a bug, not unlike the cheesy bugs in the film that spoo huge amounts of green goo out of proportion to their dimensions. its interesting to hear how pilot barbie was in refernce to starship troopers, a star map tracing one planet to another a ref. to indiana jones' maps, or one of the cast members was a member of the canadian military and some of the phrases were from the unit he was in. entertaining low budget effort.

I noticed most of the bad reviewers for the Recon series didn't even finish the film. That's like writing a book review after reading the first chapter. Personally I love this series, it fills the hole of not having enough Starship Trooper movies. Yeah it's low budget and some of the effects are laughable. But so what? This movie delivers on everything it promises to be. A gratuitous serving of action, violence, gore, some laughs, and nudity for good measure. So when you're ready for a movie that's light on story and heavy on gory, pick up Recon 2020 and it's sequels. I love this series and eagerly await Recon 2024: The Rise of the Merch.

The film and story was a poor attempt of Star Ship Troopers. Nothing to keep you in your seat, it was very boring, the old saying, you can't tell a book by its cover, fits this 100%.

but fun to watch. Take it with a sense of humor. There is some profanity in it, but being military, it's fits in well with some funny moments. I gave it 3 stars because there are a lot worse movies out there, and with the limited budget they had, they did a fair job. Why do people get hung up on special effects? Just go with it.

It's an alien movie... without aliens.
A group of, well, 'space marines' drop down on a planet. No specific mission it seems, because they have very little intel. They scope out buildings looking to find out what is going on. Along the way they run into all sorts of bad guys and creatures... all packed into this one film. In the end of the movie they blow everything up and go home. There is very little technobable so you don't need to overtax your brain with this one. Just enjoy.

I have really enjoyed the recon series. I found the lot of them entertaining, funny and over all a nice way to waste some time and relax. It's not a big budget hollywood film, frankly it's much better. It seemed to me that some folks wanted to make a scifi, as apparently so few do, with aliens, ocasional space ships, etc. They don't take themselves seriously and look to be having a great time. If you enjoy scifi, silly comedie and so on, I recomend this series.
