OK (for a low budget),

If you like bad post apocalyptic movies you might like this movie. When I rented it I expected bad acting, cheesy effects and lame story... I was not wrong in my expectations. Like most low budget films this film relies on excessive use of camera filters and effects.

I love to listen to commentary, but to hear it on such a low budget film gives you a sense of appreciation upon rewatching a 0-1 star film. you want to make a film and you have $$$ vs. $$$$$$ (or $$$$$ vs $$$$$$$$)to make not cheesy looking costumes, scenery, etc. the drop ship scene was filmed in an apartment for heavens sake. wanting to film, to act, to direct... its a bug, not unlike the cheesy bugs in the film that spoo huge amounts of green goo out of proportion to their dimensions. its interesting to hear how pilot barbie was in refernce to starship troopers, a star map tracing one planet to another a ref. to indiana jones' maps, or one of the cast members was a member of the canadian military and some of the phrases were from the unit he was in. entertaining low budget effort.

If you like low-end production values, you'll love this collection of clippings from the floor of the editing room.
I gave it two stars because someone so obviously did a public service by hiring starving film students to make this school project, and because of the assault by a giant Unidentified Mammary Object in the first minute of the film, and because a couple of the CG effects didn't completely suck, unlike the acting, which really, really sucked. I was able to watch five minutes before closing the window on this one, having glimpsed the hideous monster lurking in the shadows of my Unbox player progress bar. Five minutes. Even Radioactive Dreams held my interest longer than that. I could go on and on, but allow me to sum it up: "Craptastic!"

A fun B movie,

I have really enjoyed the recon series. I found the lot of them entertaining, funny and over all a nice way to waste some time and relax. It's not a big budget hollywood film, frankly it's much better. It seemed to me that some folks wanted to make a scifi, as apparently so few do, with aliens, ocasional space ships, etc. They don't take themselves seriously and look to be having a great time. If you enjoy scifi, silly comedie and so on, I recomend this series.

B-Movie Excellence,

I noticed most of the bad reviewers for the Recon series didn't even finish the film. That's like writing a book review after reading the first chapter. Personally I love this series, it fills the hole of not having enough Starship Trooper movies. Yeah it's low budget and some of the effects are laughable. But so what? This movie delivers on everything it promises to be. A gratuitous serving of action, violence, gore, some laughs, and nudity for good measure. So when you're ready for a movie that's light on story and heavy on gory, pick up Recon 2020 and it's sequels. I love this series and eagerly await Recon 2024: The Rise of the Merch.

2 minutes in the movie, i knew that i made a mistake. What a waste of my
money. Androids with zits and sunglasses as la men in black. Overdressed commandos in the same movie location for most of the movie. Its like they took ideas from multiple science fiction films and made this one. Viewing this film in full will probably damage you...use it as a coaster.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 really should do a reunion just for this movie. There are so many ways this could have been good, but in the end it just went wrong in so many ways. First off, there is a minute long topless scene right after the credits. I was thinking this may turn out alright, but things went downhill quickly. Our heroes are flown around in a spaceship by a pilot that looks like a moonlighting stripper. To make matters worse, her name is "Fooks". After Fooks drops off the recon team, a steady stream of ripping off other movies begins. There are terrible quality CGI bugs that explode into a splatter of goop when shot ala "Starship Troopers". There is the group of heavily armed outlaw bikers/off roaders ala "Road Warrior". There are the slow motion bullet effects ala "The Matrix". Heck, this movie even rips off the X-Files episode where Mulder and Scully are pulled into a real life video game. There's even a female android who says "I'll be back" (only without the Austrian accent). How somebody can screw up a movie with zombies, werewolves, vampire, goo splattering bugs and tons of machine gun fire is beyond me. It appears Uwe Boll is getting a run for his money from this outfit.
There's a great recommendation over on the IMDB board. Play a drinking game where everyone takes a drink when this movie blatantly rips off another sci fi movie - just be sure to keep 911 on speed dial to deal with the imminent alcohol poisoning you and your friends will get.

Well... this movie I would say that is ok. It had a good drama regarding the future, it can be unpredictable. This movie made me even wonder how really would be the world by 2020. Overall, I think is an ok movie to see.

This movie reminds me of a colorized version of those drive in "B" movies from the 1960s, except some better special effects thrown in...or better yet, that "Mystery Theatre 3000" show, where they talked thru the whole movie....that's what we did, because nothing made any sense during the movie....if you are under the age of 6, you probably loved it. I'd watch it again, but just to make fun of it! A really really bad B (no C) movie.

It seems like I waited years to get a copy of this film. I have to say that it manages to pack a lot of fantastic content into just under 90 minutes. Director Christian Viel, clearly a Horror and Sci Fi fan himself has managed to tip the hat to no less than 5 sub genres. In many ways this film has it all, vampires, werewolves, zombies, extra-dimensional aliens, cyborgs, flesh eating bugs, kick butt weaponry, explosions, air to air star fighter action and hot looking women. Yeah, that about covers it.
The story basically starts out a lot like Aliens and then takes whatever divergent path necessary to splatter all manner of baddies across an abandoned industrial looking outpost. Actually the whole thing manages to remind me of about 5 of my favorite films. This film is a lot of fun. |
