The American Biophysics Factory-Reconditioned Self-Powered Mosquito Magnet #REFURB-FRE is the only biting insect trap on the market that uses patented Counterflow Technology to lure and capture mosquitoes, no-see-ums and blackflies. Counterflow Technology enables the Mosquito Magnet to emit a plume of carbon dioxide, heat, and moisture while simultaneously drawing the insects into the trap where they dehydrate and die. A secondary attractant, such as octenol or Lurex, is used to further enhance the attraction to the trap.

Mosquitoes and other biting insects are attracted to humans by the carbon dioxide (CO2) we exhale. The Mosquito Magnet mimics a human by converting propane to CO2, heat and moisture with its patented catalytic conversion technology. There is no external flame involved in this process; it is also self-powered: no power cord is required. Attracted by the CO2, mosquitoes and other biting insects are drawn to the Mosquito Magnet. When they reach the trap, the patented CounterFlow technology vacuums them into a net where they dehydrate and die within 24 hours. The Mosquito Magnet is silent and odorless. When properly placed in your yard, the trap begins working immediately. It protects up to 3/4 of an acre. Noticeable results are achieved in 7 to 10 days. To greatly reduce your biting insect population allow 4-6 weeks. Only biting insects are targeted including mosquitoes, no-see-ums, black flies, and biting midges -- not beneficial insects such as butterflies, bees, or moths.

This is a reconditioned product. Reconditioned generally means that the product has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the product back to "like new condition". Some tools may contain cosmetic blemishes. This product comes with a 1 year warranty.

When it worked, it did catch mosquitos. The problem is that this unit has a very limited lifespan. Ours worked sporadically for two summers until failing this year. Beware that there is only a limited 1 year warranty. After that the only option the manufacturer offers is $500 for refurbishing. I'll leave judgement of how fair this is to you. We paid $795 for two summers worth of work -- please don't repeat our mistake!

My Mosquito Magnet would not start this year after two years of operation. Over its lifetime, it has caught very few mosquitos, consumed a lot of expensive propane and mosquito magnet accessories, and has had to go to the factory for repair (first time was under warranty). Today it would not start. Tech support tells me that the carburetor is clogged and that there is not a whole lot to be done about it. Their solution is to propose to sell me a *new* powerpack ($500) or a entire new unit.

This has been a very expensive product for two years of unreliable service.

After asking customer service to forward my last e-mail to the company President; I received a second replacement unit that works. It is now once again working in my yard. In the interim I also bought a Skeetervac which also works very well at both attracting and catching. I have no complaints thus far about the Skeetervac which also costs half as much as a reconditioned Freedom.
