5.0 out of 5 stars Reconditioned?
The only clue that this trimmer was reconditioned was the printing on the box. I could find no signs that it had been cranked or used. The unit that I received is an excellent homeowner's trimmer and an excellent value. This tool replaced an older Homelite ST series trimmer that served me well for about 10 years. I see no reason not to expect similar service from this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fuel line problem
The trimmer is cheap, and as they say, you get what you pay for.
I read a couple reviews in which they were complaining about not being able to start the unit or it would not run for long; on any engine this points to a fuel problem. In the case of the Homelite one or two string models, the intake fuel line is a jury rig nightmare that needs to be replaced...

The trimmer is cheap, and as they say, you get what you pay for.
I read a couple reviews in which they were complaining about not being able to start the unit or it would not run for long; on any engine this points to a fuel problem. In the case of the Homelite one or two string models, the intake fuel line is a jury rig nightmare that needs to be replaced immediately and should have been done correctly at the factory: Remove the pieced together mess the factory installed and replace with one fuel line you can pick up from any lawn mower repair shop, run the fuel line through the hole in the tank, attach the filter and then pull the line away from the tank until you have enough to attach to the engine intake tube.
You should not have to do this, but I am finding that over 50% of what I buy these days requires initial fixes to bad designs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Trash ..Junk.., June 24, 2007

If you buy one of these cheapo reconditioned homelites you may as well save you money!! Go to the casino and you will have a better chance of getting something.
Mine looked pretty when I took it from the box today but it won't run for more that 1-2 minutes tops. My dog eats more grass than this junker can trim.
Check the fine print when purchasing one of these from ------ tools. They want you to ship it back or take it to a repair center. More money spent.
I just wanted a trimmer that worked!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disgusted with this company, May 19, 2007
Being unable to get this string trimmer started, when I first received it, I took it to the designated repair shop and was told that the carburetor was full of rust. This repair cost me $25.00, not to mention the annoyance of driving 20 miles to the repair shop.

A few days later I realized that the little gas tank on the trimmer leaks and all the gas/oil mixture leaked out onto my basement floor.

I called the company a number of times and was never able to speak to anyone, because they don't answer the phone and don't return my calls.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pull Starter Keeps Breaking, July 12, 2008

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Factory Reconditioned Homelite ZR21506 17-Inch 26cc Gas-Powered Mighty Lite Curved-Shaft String Trimmer (Lawn & Patio)
I am very disappointed with this product. I have tried two units and both had the same problem. After a couple uses the pull starter mechanism jams and will not retract the starter cord leaving the unit unusable. I ended up returning both units and went out and purchased an Echo GT-200R. It was about 3x the cost but has worked flawlessly and comes with a 5 year warranty.

I do have to say that Amazon was very good about handling the returns and credits. I have purchased many items in the past from Amazon and this is the first time I have been disappointed. Hopefully it was an anomaly.

1.0 out of 5 stars Homelite String Trimmer lemon, June 11, 2008
This review is from: Factory Reconditioned Homelite ZR21506 17-Inch 26cc Gas-Powered Mighty Lite Curved-Shaft String Trimmer (Lawn & Patio)
Factory Reconditioned Homelite 17-Inch 26cc Gas Powered Mighty Lite Curved Shaft String Trimmer (Non-CARB Compliant) #ZR21506 Trimmer looked good and worked fine for fifteen minutes. Turned off and when returned few minutes later discovered plastic case badly cracked, apparently from engine heat or vibration. Called service number and was told to take to nearest service center fifty miles away. Not worth the time and gas. Will continue using as long as able but won't recommend this product to anyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, October 10, 2007
The first time I started this trimmer it took quite a few pulls. I expected that for the first time out of the box. But when I tried again a week later it wouldn't start at all. I let it sit for 10 minutes & tried again with no luck. Lastly, I removed the spark plug & sprayed starter fluid in it & after another 10 pulls it reluctantly started. It will only run on half choke. It is a good machine with plenty of power but the factory carborater settings are wayyyy off. I could easily make these adjustments if the set screws had slot or phillips heads, but they don't. I guess I'll have to go to a saw shop & get a special tool to fit the set screws. Overall I'm annoyed with busy work I have to do to make this work right. It would have been nice worked without all the hassle.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking, nonfunctioning junk, July 16, 2008
This review is from: Factory Reconditioned Homelite ZR21506 17-Inch 26cc Gas-Powered Mighty Lite Curved-Shaft String Trimmer (Lawn & Patio)
Out of the box, this easy-to-assemble refurbished trimmer looks shiny and new. Though hard to start initially, it works quite well for a relatively lightweight string trimmer, that is, for a few hours. I used this useless piece of junk a grand total of five times over 2 weeks. Only twice did it actually work as advertised. After that, it became increasingly nonfunctional, until it no longer starts at all. It would run a few minutes, then gasp and die. Searching the internet for solutions, I discovered this to be a common, non-fixable problem with this particular brand and model. The supposed solution: "contact a servicing dealer." Oh, sure, spend $100 to fix a $60 refurbished out-of-the-box trimmer. A piece of junk. I previously owned 2 Weedeater Featherlites (new), each of which lasted about 2 years, and tomorrow I'm going to the local discount store to buy another one... right after I drop the Homelite off at the dump. Ripped off again.

This review is from: Factory Reconditioned Homelite ZR21506 17-Inch 26cc Gas-Powered Mighty Lite Curved-Shaft String Trimmer (Lawn & Patio)
This product was horrible. Didn't work from the time I had it out of the box. I will never buy another remanufactured item again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy A Homelite, August 3, 2008
By
This review is from: Factory Reconditioned Homelite ZR21506 17-Inch 26cc Gas-Powered Mighty Lite Curved-Shaft String Trimmer (Lawn & Patio)
Don't buy a Homelite. You are wasting your money. My last string timmer, a different brand, lasted 12 years before it went. This one didn't make it 15 months. I bought a Homelite because a major consumer magazine (CR)gave the Homelite string trimmer a best buy rating. For a few weeks, it seemed to start easily and ran smoothly. Then, I started having problems with the string not coming out of the reel. Here I was having to continuously shut the unit off and run the string back through...a major pain. So I bought an adaption kit at Home Depot which replaced the reel with one that holds two precut pieces (this is great and I thoroughly recommend it). Now, after 14 months of owning the trimmer, I am having trouble with the engine. It runs fast, then slow, overheats and shuts off after 5-10 minutes. I have to be careful not to burn myself. I took good care of the unit....used the right gas/oil ratio, changed the spark plug, cleaned the filter, and even removed the gas during the winter months. It didn't really matter. Why bother fixing it...its a piece of junk.

1.0 out of 5 stars Most horrid piece of junk I've eer owned, June 18, 2008
By
This review is from: Factory Reconditioned Homelite ZR21506 17-Inch 26cc Gas-Powered Mighty Lite Curved-Shaft String Trimmer (Lawn & Patio)
I just got home with my brand new homelite 26 MightyLite and finished my yard in record time. Bad record that is. It is absolutely the worst piece of junk I have ever purchased. Nothing about it is engineered correctly. I'm just shy of 6 feet tall and I'd have to be another foot taller to get a level cut. It died unless I ran it at full throttle and when it DID die it was incredibly difficult to restart.

DON'T BUY ONE!!!
