5.0 out of 5 stars I love this so much I've bought spares -- I don't know what I'd do without my Palm
Yes, I know it's obsolete and no longer pretty. But it's practical, you don't need to be near a charger. [2AAA's] Battery life is great and you can do amazing things with this thing. And they're tough. It took a great deal to destroy my first one: I dropped it and then dropped heavy objects on it. (not intentional) I've dropped the replacements many times and they've...

1.0 out of 5 stars Palm IIIxe won't sync
The product came without any manuals and after trying everything I could think of I could not get this device to sync. Finally gave up after calling Amazon and being redirected to several different other numbers to get this fixed. Finally gave up and sent this back. The box it came in looked it had been wet and the pieces looked they were thrown together.

(not intentional) I've dropped the replacements many times and they've survived. Abuse is the only reason for needing replacements. If you don't care about color screens, and you want a nice, clear screen (backlit for use in the dark) and a very useful little machine, look out for these -- even the used ones have managed to last and work wonderfully) (I have 3, two in storage, one in use) (I have looked at many of the newer ones and can't see a reason for them, despite the beautiful stuff...) Battery life for one thing. And I can go camping and still have books to read, and if I have spare batteries, no charging is necessary. Now if only my XP worked as well as my Palm OS.... Sigh...

I found one of these at a yard sale with two cradles and three extra stylus for $10. My wife and I like to geocache, and we decided to take a chance on this device so we could geocache sans paper. I was skeptical such an old device would suffice, but I figured it was worth $10 to give it a try.
Well, it works wonderfully for paperless geocaching. The memory is more than enough to hold hundreds of cache information pages. In addition, you can download web pages to read at your convenience. Plus all the standard features the device comes with... e-mail, contact management, calculator, the list goes on. Batteries are holding up good, despite my frequent use of the back-light.
If you always wanted a PDA, but could not justify the cost of the new ones, give one of these a try. Be warned though, if you are like me, you way find yourself jonesing one of the newer PDAs with a color screen!

It is fine for the begginer I am. Will probably upgrade once I get into it more.
