5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Value
A REALLY good value!!! My old Ryobi needed a couple of repair parts that would have cost as much as this refurbished trimmer. I expected to get a used but rebuilt product, but was surprised to find a brand-new looking unit in the box. Put it together in 5 minutes, put gas in it, and it started on the first pull. I've been using this on 6 acres of orange grove with...

2.0 out of 5 stars bump and freeze CS30
Had this item for over 1 year. Works fine except the bump and go head. After a short while it won't release new string. Find the nut is locked (frozen in place). In the past I have successfully used two pipe wrenches to unlock it. Not this time. Took it to a shop and they replaced the nut/bolt assembly. Worked about 20 minutes and it is now frozen solid again.

If you get this make sure you have LOCAL support to handle warranty issues!

My last ryobi trimmer lasted 12 years. This one is less than satisfactory.

I've been using this on 6 acres of orange grove with Husky titanium string, and this machine has ripped through it with flying colors. ALWAYS starts without a problem. Be ready for a little bit of vibration and winding, but you should expect that with a machine in this price range. Plus, you've got the split shaft for other attachments...

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice machine, tricky to start, March 6, 2011

For those of you having problems starting this trimmer, I may have found the solution. Starting it for the first time, I followed the directions on the side of the air cover and it started as advertised.

I have discovered that the engine floods easily, and after the initial start up you need to use a different procedure.

-Set the Lever to Full Choke.

-Pump the Primer 2-3 times.

-Full throttle and pull the cord until it tries to start.

-Set Lever to 1/2 Choke.

-Pull cord, full throttle, until it starts (3-4 times),

-After 10 seconds set the Lever to Run.

Great little trimmer for the money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Stay away, September 28, 2010

Stay away from this product and pay the extra money to buy quality. Everyone writing reviews rating this thing with 5 stars ... you just bought it, wait a few months and then see what kind of a hasle it is trying to get this started. I have had it for about a year and half now and except for the day I purchased it, it has taken over 15 minutes on average to get this started. I gave this 2 stars instead of one because once it does start, it does do a pretty good job cutting through some pretty thick weeds and grass. But a tool that isn't ready to use when I'm ready to use it .. is a useless tool to me. If I didn't use the thing so infrequently (8-10 times over the spring, summer, fall) I would just give it away and buy something else. But when I do finally buy soemthing else, I won't be buying Ryobi.

Just got it and put it together. I really like the short push in lines, they're easy to install and there is to bump knob to mess with. I'd much rather replace the lines often than have the frustration of trying to wind line and have it not advance after it's all together again. The head alone costs $25.00 at Home Depot so it's a steal on a $70.00 unit. I had a 30cc ryobi before and I do notice the reduced power in the 26cc unit. I'm sure it will still do the job but it won't annihilate grass like my old one did. They've moved the primer bulb to the top of the unit where it much easier to see and us. The unit started after 2 or 3 pulls and idles very well without a lot of vibration. I registered this unit on line and ryobi says I have a 2 year warranty. I don't know if the warranty will be useful but it indicates that they have faith in it.

I don't know how Amazon got the unit to me so fast. I ordered it one day and received it the next day - no kidding. It's like they were hanging out around the corner watching me struggle with my old ryobi trimmer.

Bottom line is- buy this unit, use the short lines and live happily ever after or until the warranty runs out whichever comes first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent power and value, June 20, 2011

I needed something to take care of the parts of my lawn my ride-on mower couldn't get to effectively, but not knowing much about garden tools I didn't want to spend much money. This tool seemed like a good fit for my needs as I could not reach everywhere with a cord and have enough ground that a cordless electric string trimmer may not have enough juice to do the whole property.

The packaging was adequate and it shipped very quickly. The instructions were easy to follow and assembly was a breeze. I very much like the fact that I could buy more attachments to the base engine, but have not yet done so, and therefore can't comment on whether or not that is easy or useful. I did not count on having to make a gas mixture, but the local hardware store had what I needed and the experience proved trivial.

I recall reading reviews about issues with the trimmer starting. After 2 months of use I've never had a problem starting this thing. The instructions to start seem a little lengthy at first, but after 2-3 starts it's pretty easy to remember and the trimmer has always started like a charm. Another issue I remember reading about is that the automatic string feed feature doesn't work. I've found it works sometimes, but more often than not you have to turn the trimmer off, unscrew the head piece, feed the string through manually, and restart. Since the string doesn't break off too easily, I don't really mind this inconvenience. I'm usually able to get all my edges on a half acre property replacing the string once, and using half of a very small tank of gas.

What pleasantly surprised me was the power. My first attempt was using the trimmer, I took it too close to a solar path light and it sliced through the path light clean, no jagged edges. It handles thick brush well, and I wouldn't be surprised if I could trim small branches with it (however I'm not foolish enough to test that theory out). It has enough power that if only one of the two strings gets pulled out and jams, I'll keep going with one string because it still does a good job. It's been easy to use, easy to clean, and quite comfortable to use. It doesn't feel heavy or clunky, and while figuring out how close to the ground to hold it takes a little practice it's easy enough.

I can't say enough about how pleased with this product I've been. I will certainly look to buy the attachments or other Ryobi products solely based off of this product's performance and ability to exceed my expectations. Maybe more expensive trimmers have more luxury features, but this tool does everything I need it to and I could not beat the value.

I got this as a stop-gap. The parts seemed to be cobbled together from a number of different models. Nothing matched any instruction manual. Gets worse with each use.

The best thing to be said about this is it has me saving up for a good string trimmer.

I had to modify it enough (put on a real spool rather than those impossible clip-in strings) that I could not, in good conscience, send it back to Amazon.

Product arrived earlier then expected, easy assembly, added mixed gas and away we went. First time having a weed eater that had a curved shaft, but have found it is less strain on the back.

I'm on my 3rd one in 5 years, they are poorly built and not made to last long. First the pull string mechanism locked up, then after getting that fixed it was not wanting to start. Now I just used, for the very last time, a Ryobi tool. The screw and socket where the trimmer attaches to the handle just stripped and I am DONE. Please learn from my misfortunes!!!!

I used one of these for about 10 years. I wish I had kept and overhauled the old one.

When I went to buy another one, the price had gone up significantly. So I got refurbished. Very pleased initially, then it became impossible to start after a couple of months.

Best advantage-I use the short push-in string instead of the bump mechanism, but it will do both.

I really regret this purchase. Ryobi is not the product is used to be.

Don't buy refurbished. You need a warranty on anything you by these days.
