I give up,

This review is from: Factory Reconditioned Ryobi ZRRY43006 18-Inch 13 amp Electric Chain Saw with Carrying Case (Lawn & Patio)
I've had this chain saw for over a year. When it was new it worked fine but has not aged well. The case it comes in is good but the saw leaked chain oil from the start so you either have to drain the oil or put up the the mess. The chain tightener is easier than most but unfortunately it has failed prematurely and is nearly impossible to install a new chain. The mechanism is just too wimpy. I'm going to buy the Consumer Reports recommended Poulan Pro 40E for about the same price.

During first use cutting small fallen limbs product starting smoking and burnt electrical connections. Ryobi provided a list a locations providing warranty service for outdoor products. I contacted all locations and they advised that they only worked on gas products. I shipped it to a repair facility in St Louis and they rejected the warranty claim. The excuse was it was operated with the tension too tight. This was the first use - tension was set by Ryobi at the factory. I checked it before use and it turned without binding - which according to the manual is the correct tension. Even if this were true, a product with this advertised power should not be so fragile as to catch fire if the tension is not correct.

good product, but a bit flimsey in the plastic and chain tension hardware. You need compressed air to properly clean out the saw dust. For the price this was an excellent buy.

I ordered this saw as a re-conditioned saw and was advised that the company totally inspected and re-conditioned the saw. I was disappointed that the saw came with a chain that had been used to cut rocks. I called the company and was told that they do not replace the chains and would not assist me in securing a new one. The saw ,however; ran very well and has plenty of power but you may need to purchase a new chain to go on your new saw.

Good cutters on chain, holds edge well. Adequate power, but keep chain sharp. Learn to hand sharpen, it's not that hard and only takes a few minutes, 4 strokes per tooth at the right angle. Mark starting tooth with a Sharpie. Do all one angle then turn around and do the other angle. The chain will last forever that way. Uses lots of oil, but no big deal. Clogs easily with chips so keep it clean. may have to remove plastic cover occasionally. Have used it hard over two years on oak logs. Case vibrates a bit. Great for use in the shop to prepare blanks for wood-turning. Doesn't bug the neighbors. I recommend it for the serious home shop: great value. Only better choice is the Stihl at several times the price. If this one fails I most likely will just buy another.

Impressive for an electric saw,

Mine came without a case for $69 at Harbor Freight, a good value. It was the display model. Am quite happy with it for around home here. Surprisingly powerful for an electric model. I've bucked up 2-cord loads of slab wood without a hiccup. Works good for pruning, but the bar is longer than needed for that.
Plan on running it out of bar oil as it does leak out in storage. It does oil the chain well.

Electric Chainsaw with real power,

I was very pleasantly surprised at the power this electric chainsaw has. I have a larger gas chainsaw and a smaller electric chainsaw and have used both a lot. This electric with a 3.5 hp motor and an 18 bar seems to be on the high end of sizes for available electrics and I wish I had found this a long time ago. It is not nearly as heavy as my gas saw which helps the fatigue factor a lot. You also don't have to fool with the gas/oil mix and re-fueling (except bar oil for both) and the electric is much quieter. Of course, if I am away from electric power and/or cutting logs 20-30 inches in diameter, I use my gas saw, but for anything else this big electric is quite satisfactory. I purchased a factory refurbished saw and the first time I used it was for a constant 2 hours of limb cutting that were in the 3 to 8 inch size range. It did not miss a beat except once to adjust for the normal small amount of stretching of a new chain. The price on the refurbished tool was very attractive, the quality proven by actual use was better than I expected in this price range and was not much more cost than the smallest new electrics that I consider not worth buying. I would not have considered an electric chainsaw for any serious cutting before I found this model but now I would have to say I am impressed with this one for all except the largest woodcutting jobs or commercial use.

What a great product! I am totally satisfied! No more do I have to fight with mixing gas and oil. No more do I have to struggle with a chain saw that refuses to start! Don't forget to oil the chain, but other than that, you just plug it in and cut through branches and small trees smoothly and easily. And here's a real plus: it's much more quiet than the typical gasoline version! You don't disturb yourself or the neighbors nearly as much. Life is good. I'm so glad I bought this chainsaw from Amazon!
