Useful and less than useful.,

This review is from: The Reconnection (Paperback)
I just finished reading The Reconnection. I debated whether to write a review and, finally, decided that I would go ahead and share my thoughts.
I am an osteopath who has been in practice for 17 years. Each of our paths is different and I would never presume to question anyone else's work. What the author describes is, I assume, his experience. My own journey has brought me to a place where much of what is described in this book is quite familiar. I experience it daily. I found the first half of the book ( up to page 83 in the 2001 version that I have) unhelpful. This is the autobiographical aspect in which the author describes his own development. He tells us repeatedly that he has a special gift, that he was sought out [given this gift] because he is "a master," " we [entities who speak to him] have come because of your reputation." (p.70) The author is very, very special. He spends almost one-third of the book reminding us of this. He is not just special; he is very special. So much for the first part of the book, the personality. However, the second half of the book is entirely different. It contains many nuggets which, based on my own limited but practical experience I can say ring true. He provides many guidelines and pearls ( please forgive the unintended pun) which will prove invaluable for anyone seriously interested in entering this path regardless of whatever level that may be. His advice on dealing with clients, length of time, follow-up visits, mind states of the practitioner, and beliefs associated with such work are spot on. It took me many years to learn much of this on my own. A few other personal comments: You need not attend any class, seminar or read any book to do this work. It is yours whether you consciously know this or not. Silently ask to be taught when you interact with anyone and, I promise, you will. Your hands are already activated. You need not seek out anyone to activate them. There is no right or wrong way. There is just what presents. Don't try to accomplish anything. Let It do the work. Your trying only gets in the way. There is no need for any entities or spirits but, if you wish to cultivate such things, you will experience that, too. However, my own experience is that this is totally unnecessary. The author expresses his own beliefs. You need not adopt them in order to successfully experience what is described in this volume. Trust yourself, trust the moment. Know that All is well.

Coming down to earth,

This review is from: The Reconnection (Paperback)
When I began reading this book, I too was carried away by Eric Pearl's exuberance and passion. His book is heady stuff. Pearl is very funny, and he is even more persuasive, making some very astute observations of the human condition. The first part of the book - which is largely autobiographical - on the whole resonated well with me, and for this, I could have given 4 stars.
As for the latter part, where Pearl begins to interpret his experiences from his own personal point of view, this was where I came down to earth somewhat. I began to question his constant assertions that his healing method is supreme. Has he tested out all the others he dismisses so readily? I doubt it. How can you understand the essence of qigong, for example, without really practising it - a whole-of-life approach that requires the same kind of paradigm shift that Pearl claims for his own method. What is more, I have seen - even personally experienced - healings that have had none of the drama of his method, but which were just as remarkable. Healing is universal. In Roger Jahnke's "The Healer Within" you will find an account of a young woman lying badly injured in a hospital bed, who quietly and unobtrusively healed her torn liver and spleen over forty-eight hours while waiting to be fit for surgery. (How? You'll need to read the book, but I can say here that she'd had no previous training or healing experience.) The point is that no one has the definitive answer to healing; neither does any one method take precedence over all others. (Were Pearl's objections really about the methods, or the way they are sometimes misused?) It is interesting to note that Christ used a wide variety of healing methods. Surely then, how we heal will remain a highly individual experience - no matter how spiritually advanced we become. To anyone who despairs that they can only acquire the gift of healing through hands-on contact with Eric Pearl himself, I would quote a Buddhist aphorism, "You have come here to find what you already have."

Not just a book, but an experience,
By "pdonworth" (Stratford, CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Reconnection: Heal Others, Heal Yourself (Hardcover)
I read Dr. Pearl's book, straight through, in one sitting. I couldn't put it down; the story is compelling. The book is about Dr. Pearl's experience of what he calls RECONNECTIVE HEALING. RECONNECTIVE HEALING is beyond "energy" work, "faith" healing, or "spiritual" healing. It has nothing to do with "belief" or "sending" energy. It's about -- if I'm reading it correctly -- tapping into the quantum, reconnecting with "virtual strings of DNA" and having one's vibration, frequency -- whatever you want to call it -- raised to a higher level. In that higher level, writes Pearl, amazing things happen, one of them being "healings" on the physical, mental, and emotional levels.Pearl's down-to-earth narrative, his self-effacing humor, and his iconoclastic views of many New Age techniques, methods, and healing rituals was welcome and refreshing. And, as strange as it sounds, I, too, like many others, have had the experience that my hands become warm just holding the book or thinking about the energy Pearl describes. In fact, for four nights following my reading of his book, I dreamed I was offering healing to others and my hands became hot as fire. So hot, that I woke up and my hands actually were hot and pulsating with an "energy" of some sort. This has never happened to me in a dream. "The Reconnection" is not just a book; it's an experience. One of the best books on healing I've read, and I've read a ton. This is a must-read for anyone with even the slightest interest in healing or energy work.

A new way of seeing...,

~
Reconnective Healing is real. I am grateful to have recently encountered it, finding it to be the most direct, powerful, and all-encompassing level of energy work I have encountered yet in all my years of exploring and using various healing modes such as: Reiki, Chi Gung, NLP, Hypnotherapy, Past Life Regression, Conscious Breathing, Body Talk System, Emotional Freedom Technique, Medicine Ways, channeling, crystals, chakra balancing, and others. Some folks may have misunderstood Dr. Pearl's suggestion that reading the book may be the beginning of a process of opening to a new level of consciousness and energy for some people. He never promised that reading the book would allow someone to perform miracle healings. In Reconnective Healing trainings much time is given to techniques and exercises for each person to become sensitive to feeling the flow of energy that is already within us and all around us, and to fine tune it. By feeling these subtle energies they become activated - reconnected - in you and in those you connect with while in this awareness. It is the energy itself in you that does the healing while you 'get out of the way' by letting go of your ideas and expectations. The simplest ideas are often the most difficult to accept; and the healing approach described in this book is pure simplicity. In fact, it works better the more we let go of our preconceptions. ~

This is the book I've been waiting for.,

Finally a simple explanation for this wonderful energy work called "Reconnective Healing". I could feel the energy in my hands every time I picked up the book. I just know that my energy is running at a higher vibration after finishing it. It's certainly not a dry how to manual. Dr. Pearl really knows how to tell a good story and make everyone feel at ease and explain how easy it is to do. You can really feel the care, effort and love that he put into this major project with his busy traveling schedule. I'm so thankful he took the time to do this. I've passed out 9 copies to my students and will be ordering more. They are all raving about it too and telling me how they can feel the energy from the book. It's wonderful and everyone in any health related field should read this book to help themselves and their clients. Everyone else should read it to help themselves.

First half of book is about author. He might say we need his background to understand his work. Others might wonder if they purchased a biography. After 89 pages on himself Dr. Pearl finally starts teaching something.
From Chapter Ten on there are some tidbits worth underlining to remember. So I gave book a three since he does eventually give some information worth thinking about. Buy The Reconnection if you already have the two I mention below and have spare money. I perfer Matrix Energetics by Dr.Richard Bartlett. Both books are by chiropractic doctors and teach energetic healing techniques. Pearl's book was written in 2001, Bartlett's in 2007 and is less egotistical and has more information and quantum theory explainations. My current top favorite is Parallel Universes of Self by Fredrick Dodson. Dodson explains how and why with many exercises for learning to do it yourself without attending expensive seminars. He credits a lot of people for his knowledge and there isn't any ego stuff to climb over.

Too snide for my tastes,
By CrysAnne (Bliss, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Reconnection (Paperback)
I really want to give this book more stars, because I think there *is* some good information within its pages. But I can't. See, I have a really hard time accepting a spiritual message/lesson when it comes from someone who conducts himself in what appears to me to be an UNspiritual manner. This is what I think Pearl does throughout this book, and it put me off in a really big way.
I'm not saying he can't be human; that's fine. Drink, party, swear -- do whatever you want. But in extolling the virtues of his own energy modality he seems to love laughingly putting down countless others, as well as those who teach those modalities and the followers they attract. He also roundly lambastes the typical cost for (and functionality of) metaphysical seminars, but then proceeds to indicate that in order to really learn his modality one ought to attend his seminars -- which appear to start at the extremely steep cost of $800.00! In case you don't know, that is WAY more than most metaphysical seminars out there. Another thing which troubled me was his declaration that evil does not exist, and that rituals (for protection and efficiency) are for the most part fear-based and needless. However, he never explains how he knows this to be true, giving us instead his seemingly authoritative position on it and encouraging us to follow along. This seems to me to be a negligent and dangerous stance to take, as I *do* believe darkness (and negativity, and evil) exists in the world and that all spiritual workers ought to be aware of it. Look, I don't claim to know much about energy work, but I *can* tell when someone is being needlessly negative and rude when it's simply not warranted. There are many ways to skin a cat, as it were, and just because Pearl likes *his* way doesn't mean his way is superior (though he'll tell you differently) or that he knows better. Because that's simply not the case. It's also just unspeakably arrogant. And so in the end, I couldn't get past the tone long enough to embrace the message. I think Pearl really needs to work on his approach and his humility (if there is any). Because instead of delivering an exciting and potentially ground-breaking message, what he's done is come off as the kind of extremely elitist, myopic "spiritual leader" he claims to so disdain. I can't recommend this. Sorry.

First, a bit about how I found out about the book. I attended a free talk by someone trained by Eric Pearl to be a Reconnection Practitioner. She spoke about her personal experience being healed by him from a serious illness (back when he was still doing that) and then deciding to become a Reconnection Practitioner to help others. I believe her to be a sincere and honest person. I met some of the people healed of serious illness by this particular Practitioner. I got this book after my first session with the Reconnection Practitioner because I wanted to learn more about it. I don't have any serious illness myself and all I can tell you is after the session I felt slightly different (no thunderbolts!) just a gentle energy lift and a more positive frame of mind. FYI - Individual sessions are not the same as the "Personal Reconnection" which is $333. My first session was $70. See the website for more info: [...]
Eric Pearl does not promise that reading his book will give you The Reconnection, but does not rule out the possibility of this happening. He does explain techniques for working with energy in the second half of the book. The first half of the book is basically his life story. If you want to be a Practitioner you have to go through the training just like Reiki or any other modality. I have had some training with other types of energy work (Reiki, etc.) and I believe it all comes from the same source of Universal Energy. (It's all good!) I use parts of everything I have learned in a way that best fits me and get results. I have not attended any of his seminars but have felt a "boost" in my energy since having this work done on me. I am a Massage Therapist and have had some interesting results with clients too. I plan on attending his next seminar in this area.

Refreshing and empowering. Takes healing to a new level!,
By Barbara (Norway) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Reconnection: Heal Others, Heal Yourself (Hardcover)
Whether you're a sceptic about healing or a believer, take a closer look at "The Reconnection". I'd even say, since this book crossed your path, you might consider that it has a message for you. It certainly had one for me! I've always been a bit sceptical about New Age stuff, and healing ? - well, I thought, you had to be born with a gift or something. Then I stumbled over "The Reconnection", ordered it without knowing why and read it straight through. Eric Pearls style is direct, easy and very down-to-earth. The latter is what makes it so refreshing to read. Eric Pearl throws all your limitating thoughts about the "right technique", the "right attitude" and other "do's" and "dont's" over board. Thanks to an adventurous soul here in Norway, a friend who attended all three Reconnection courses, I was lucky to receive several Reconnective healings and the Reconnection itself. The energy or life force Eric Pearl is talking about is for real and accessible to anyone - and although it grew stronger with each step, it actually started with reading the book! So go ahead - take a leap of faith and order it!

Caution...,
By To Thine Own Self Be True (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Reconnection (Paperback)
Hello?
Dr. Pearl said in his book that he works with an entity. His entity channelled messages to him through 50 of his chiropractic patients. He said that 49 of them never channelled before, and they were always taken by surprise. To quote Dr. Pearl, some of them were so unnerved by the experience that they never returned to his office. This suggests that the entity isn't averse to invading and using unsuspecting people for its purposes. When a person entrusts their body to a chiropractor and, as per his book, the patient gets their head thrown back by an unseen force, their eyes rolled into their sockets, and their vocal chords taken over without their conscious consent, I suggest this isn't Love operating in Its highest form, and in fact he seems teamed up with something entirely unacceptable and dangerous. Also, Dr. Pearl showed lack of respect for the ways of other healing practices. It's one thing to share one's perspectives; it's another to ridicule others. He doesn't talk like a loving person. He seems full of ego! I noticed other problems with Dr. Pearl's perspectives and the energies he promotes, but if only for the reasons stated above, I'd not only NOT go to his seminars, I'd cross the street when I saw him coming and hope he didn't notice me. |
