R. Carlos Nakai takes another rare excursion into electronica, picking up where he left off with Enter Tribal. But Reconnections is more tightly focused, leaving all the Native American guest players aside and forging a more ensemble sound. Except for his Quartet recordings, this is more rhythmic than anything Nakai usually does. No one will mistake it for a dance CD, but you won't find it on massage tables either. Nakai is revealed in his best light, surrounded by the multifarious strings of William Eaton, who is like having a multi-culti string ensemble in your pocket. Is there a harpist on this record? Where did that sitar and koto come from? It's all William Eaton on one of his hybrid guitars. Ambient electronics from both Cliff Sarde and William Eaton provide shadowy echoes and elliptical counterpoint to Nakai's flute melodies. When Nakai rides the waves created by Sarde, Eaton, and percussionist Randy Wood on "Dreaming Worlds," it makes you realize again why he's the Miles Davis of the Native flute, exploring new terrain, bringing the best out of his musicians, and creating cogent, centered solos. This recording features some of R. Carlos Nakai's most soulful, stirring and adventurous performaces to date. He plays with effortless beauty against Eaton's strumming and Sarde's rhythmic soundscapes. Randy Wood's vocal peformance is gorgeous and stunning. All together ethereal, enchanting and evocative.

Nakai Is a Man of Spirit and this is reflected in all his music. The Jugaheart review is an unwarranted one fill with a lack of spiritual depth and insight hence the name jugaheart means one that plays tricks or has an insincere heart. The Universe will give you exactly what you put out. Carlos Nakai on the other hand needs no one to defend him because Spirit can do that. I Thank God for him! His music connects me to my Native American Heratage and I feel a deep connection to who I really am. Thank you Carlos Nakai because many look at my features but they don't understand the spirit within me My Native American features stand out but the spirit within me stands out even more.

I find this music pretentious and affected. Even the titles of the songs imply an understanding of the universe which the music doesn't convey. Just because a man is an Indian and has a flute doesn't mean he knows anything about spirituality.
