3.0 out of 5 stars I wouldn't pay full price for this book, March 2, 2009

This review is from: Reconstructing Brigid (Red Dress Ink Novels) (Paperback)
"Reconstructing Brigid" is about a woman named Brigid who reconstructs traffic accidents to find out why they were caused. She is the best in her field, but after a horrible car accident that kills the man she loves and his child she is unable to get into a car again, let alone do her job. When a rich man's daughter is killed in a car accident Brigid is requested to help aid the investigation and since she is running out of money she cannot refuse. In a group of people where everyone seems to be guilty of some sort of crime it is difficult for Brigid to find the killer, especially since she is dealing with the demons of her past the whole time.

This book was just okay, I didn't feel the compulsion to finish it in one sitting. It was easy to put down. Like one other reviewer said it seemed like it should be a part of a series, as a stand alone book it just seemed to be left open at the end. I also thought it would have a bit more romance since that is what all of her other books are like but this one centered on the murder plot leaving the romance to come in a very, very distant second. Brigid was a great character and a very strong woman; watching her deal with her demons while sorting out a murder that no one else could figure out was the main thing that held this book together. You couldn't help but want to figure out who the killer was and who or what would put Brigid over the edge. I just hope there is another installment in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Would make a good series..., January 11, 2009

This review is from: Reconstructing Brigid (Red Dress Ink Novels) (Paperback)
Brigid Ashbury, accident reconstructionist, has been suffering from PTSD as a result of her own horrible car accident. Now she's thrown back into the ring to help the FBI solve the mystery surrounding the disappearance, and apparent car crash, of the daughter of a high-ranking CEO in Maine.

The basic plot line of this novel is a good one. The main character is very sympathetic and there's a host of interesting sub-characters to frame out the tale. There's plenty of internal conflict, but the main story line doesn't disappoint either.

There were some inconsistencies that I noticed in the time line of the novel at certain points throughout the story. But, none of them were distracting enough to take away from the overall entertainment factor of reading the book.

I will say this: I thoroughly enjoy Lee Nichols writing style and I feel that she has a great beginning to a potentially fantastic series with Reconstructing Brigid. I would really love to see Brigid Ashbury, and her chaffeur/personal assistant/romantic interest Aaron White, make a repeat performance in another mystery novel down the line.

Here's hoping that Ms. Nichols reads some of these reviews and take that advice!
