Reconstructed clothing doesnt have to look like rags,
By
This review is from: Reconstructing Clothes For Dummies® (Kindle Edition)
I rented this book from the library first and I am glad that I did. I would love to find a book on nice wearable reconstructed clothing. Absolutely everything in this book looked too much like "Mad Max beyond the Thunderdome". I'm not looking for high fashion just nice and casual, didn't find it in this book at all.

Spark your imagination,
By
This review is from: Reconstructing Clothes For Dummies (Paperback)
This book is the beginning of a whole new way to look at your unwanted clothing. It also gives a glimpse of underground culture here in SF where we are conscious of what mass consumerism is doing to the country, and creative enough to expand our ideas of what it means to have style. Miranda's book gives detailed instructions on ways to change certain items but more than that it opens up the imagination. Punk rockers and teens have been hacking away at their clothing for decades. This book offers a way for everyone to blend individuality with function.

This is a wonderful book because it embodies the author's philosophy of life - it's more than just a DIY book, it's a guide to a way of life that is more creative, fulfilling and easier on the planet. Very inspiring! And the projects are great too!

There are some very clever ideas in this book, and the styles will work for people around the authors age. i am older and don't think i could pull them off. I still enjoyed the book, as i love the idea of reconstruction, and enjoy seeing how other people make that happen. The books instructions could be better and have more diagrams

I have never had much patience when it comes to sewing and this book inspired me to give it a shot - by hand and by sewing machine. The author writes in such a simple, fun way and encourages you to find your own style. The ideas she offers up in this book are a fantastic base for learning how to create your own unique style while bucking consumerism. I have had so much fun completing the projects in this book - which were surprisingly fast and simple and I look forward to experimenting more on my own. So glad the author decided to share!

Reconstructing Clothesfor Dummies,
This review is from: Reconstructing Clothes For Dummies (Paperback)
I don't even sew, but this book makes me want to learn! It is not just a boring "how to" book, but a really well-written (the author has a great sense of humor!), interesting creative journey with lots of fun tips. Even if the projects are not for you, the author gives enough guidance for you to reinvent the projects to suit your own style. Caveat: This is not a book about tailoring. It's not even really a book about sewing. It's a book about creativity.

What can I say?.. This is a pretty basic beginners book on the subject matter. There's nothing to ambitious about it. It shows you the basics of sewing (if you need that). I would recommend this book to complete beginners (people who have never sewn before), and possibly suggest it to those who have an interest but already know how to sew. I didn't personally use any of the ideas in here, but the projects gave me ideas in how to resolve things that I had already started. I give it a 1 thumb up.

This book clearly lays out an abundance of complete and workable projects while also helping me understand how to finally get under way with my own ideas.
The author has laid out a variety of styles in her projects but more importantly she's shown us how green and sustainable looking good can be. Her section on working with scraps is simply amazing! Its some of the best looking pieces and all by eliminating the waste. Very inspiring. The book is essentially a portal to better personal expression. I'm now working with dozens of old garments and creating new pieces, some from the book and some of my own design and best of all I've bought nothing new! The author showed me how to work with what I already had and now I have a new hobby that consumes almost nothing. This book is fabulous.

A great source of inspiration,

I'm not very good at sewing--especially not from scratch--and I had recently noticed my lack of inspiration when it comes to making something new. But this book has breathed new life into my creative spirit! It has given me lots of ideas, and the fact that I can use existing items in my closet instead of having to make things from scratch is going to help a lot.

Sounded really good from most of the reviews but very disappointed in the lack of real practical projects for clothing. Of the projects described I think the average person with some sewing skills could have worked it out for themselves. More of a beginners sewing book really.
