This review is from: Reconstructing Dixie: Race, Gender, and Nostalgia in the Imagined South (Paperback)
Well written report on what really goes on in the South and how it affects the inhabitants of a real, yet often mythical part of the country. Only someone who lived in the south, and experienced the realities, and subsequent myths, of the region, could research those realities and myths in such a way to intertwine the seemingly incongruous concepts to capture the truth that is the South. Ms. McPherson attacks this challenge, grabs it by the belt buckle, and dissects the milieu that many of us are a part of, but very few understand. This book about "other" people taught me more about myself than I would have dreamed (or chosen to) on my own volition.
