Book Description

This dynamic introduction to paleoanthropology presents the fossil evidence for human evolution and demonstrates how anthropologists interpret this evidence in light of the most current research.

Addressing some of the most central questions in paleoanthropology—where did we come from? is the emergence of humans an evolutionary anomaly?—Professor Conroy explores with clarity and enthusiasm the promise and challenges of this exciting field. The Second Edition has been significantly expanded and reorganized for greater accessibility. Illustrated

About the Author

Glenn C. Conroy (Ph.D. Yale University) has served as Course Master of Human Anatomy and Development in the Medical School at Washington University, where he is professor of anatomy and anthropology. His research analyzes paleontological evidence for primate evolution, particularly over the past 15 million years of Earth history. Of particular interest is the time period between 15-5 mya, the temporal framework within which humans and African apes diverged. His research team in Namibia has discovered the first Miocene hominoid ever found in sub-equatorial Africa and has also collected one of the most extensive middle Miocene faunas from Africa. He is author of Primate Evolution (1990) as well as numerous research articles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. Another masterpiece. A must have., March 25, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Reconstructing Human Origins, Second Edition (Paperback)
I have just finished to read the book in a first reading. This second edition of the book is another masterpiece of the Prof. Conroy. The book is updated and it includes all the aspects of the human evolution, from the plio-pleistocene world to our modern origins. Notable the number of figures, schemes, diagrams and tables present in the book. The book is so updated that it includes the recent dwarf species Homo floresiensis.
Any sort of australopithecus and any sort of homo are included. This is a serious book for the one that really wants to learn the human evolution. I currently think it it is the best. If you purchase it you won't repent of it.
See my previous review of the first edition of this book.
A big thanks to Prof. Conroy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Reconstructing origins... but 10 years to late!, February 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Reconstructing Human Origins, Second Edition (Paperback)
If I had purchase this book 10 years sooner, I would have been completely satisfied.
As you can guess, I purchased it last year, and a lot of important new datas were not in the book... an new edition must be done.
The quality of the writing and the drawings is good (more than good actually) for a student starting in paleoanthropology. This book is probably one of the best written work made on the evolution of Homo sapiens sapiens and its "cousins" species.

I wait a long time (about 25 days) to get it home, so a entire mounth went by in the semester before I could start to read the informations I needed. The book itself was in great condition.
