Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Live album featuring Scott Miller's most requested songs/fan favorites including 'Drunk All Around This Town' which has never been recorded on an album. ''The same kind of charisma and southern charm that has made Steve Earle an alt-country hero for decades, and the songwriting sensibilities of a young Townes Van Zandt.'' -Asheville Citizen Times

Live albums don't get much livelier than this, as Scott Miller and the Commonwealth do what great bar bands have always done. They tear up the joint with propulsive interplay, powerhouse riffing, catchy chorus hooks that practically demand a singalong, and even the occasional heartfelt ballad. The former leader of Tennessee's V-Roys leads his quartet through road-warrior anthems ("Eight Miles per Gallon"), gambling songs ("On a Roll"), and drinking songs ("Drunk All Around This Town"). He channels the inspiration of Chuck Berry ("It Didn't Take Too Long") and Bruce Springsteen ("Freedom's a Stranger") and dips into the songbooks of Tom Petty ("Spike") and Neil Young ("Hawks and Doves"). The crowd never wants to let the band go. Miller may not be the equal of Springsteen, Petty, and Young, but you can no longer hear those guys play bars. The colder the beer and the freer it flows, the better this music sounds. --Don McLeese

I was at the Down Home for all 3 nights of the recording of this album & could not be happier with the result. Producer R.S. Field did a wonderful job of cleaning up any rough spots but leaving it alone enough to where it still feels like a live album. It's a great mix of the Commonwealth in mid-season form plus an appreciative & responsive crowd of loyal fans. The album not only weaves through most of Scott's best loved songs but also features a couple of covers by two of his favorite artists (Tom Petty & Neil Young), plus two previously unreleased songs that you could only hear by seeing Scott live. While Reconstruction is no substitute for seeing the band in person, it'll definitely hold you over until they come back through your town. Buy two copies & then tell a friend!!

I previously had not heard of, nor listened to anything by Scott Miller & the Commonwealth. I have not been a fan of "country" styled music, as I had been diswayed by the "twangy" music about the singer's dog getting run over by a pick-up truck. I inadvertently heard Scott Miller & the Commonwealth live in Houston a few weeks ago. The live performance which featured many of the songs in this album were great. This album really does capture the sound of this band "live", although in person performances are more intense. I highly recommend this, there a mix of many styles and just plain enjoyable to listen to.

"Reconstruction" is a nice and certainly lively live CD from Scott Miller and the Commonwealth. It is a rebound from the disappointing "Citation" CD. "Citation" was not bad, but it simply did not measure up to "Thus Always to Tyrants" and "Upside, Downside." As live recordings often are, "Reconstruction," is a marker for where the band is now. And Miller and the Commonwealth remain as engaging as ever. This is roots rock at its best.

If you've never heard of Scott Miller, BUY THIS CD! He's a talented songwriter and a lot of fun to listen to. Scott's style of music defies conventional descriptions. Rock? Yes. Country? Yes. Bluegrass? Yes. Gospel? Sometimes. Whatever you call it, you're gonna love it!

If you already love Scott Miller but don't yet own this, BUY THIS CD! It's the second best thing to actually being at one of his live performances.

I just watched Scott Miller & the Commonwealth perform the album Revolution Live on a program called Bluegrass Underground. I was blown away with how awesome this group was. I had never heard of them before although I am a fan of bluegrass music. I had tears in my eyes as they performed the song, Is There Room at the Cross For Me? Their harmonies were spot on and their musicianship was tight. I am their newest fan and can't wait to check out their other albums.
