Herbie Mann meets the bossa nova masters!,
By existentializer "Sean" (Kamuela, Hawaii) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Recorded In Rio De Janerio (MP3 Download)
This is definitely worth considering as an addition to your collection if you are a bossa nova fan. This is a solid album of familiar Jobim compositions sure to please any listener. There are some string and horn arrangements typical of the period, but not on every track. None of it overshadows the magnificent voices/guitar of Joćo Gilberto/piano of Antonio Carlos Jobim. The addition of Herbie Mann on flute is a nice fit as he swings his way through each track facilely in both idioms (jazz/bossa nova), especially on "Insensitive," "One Note Samba" and my personal favorite, "Deve Ser Amor." Enjoy! |
