OK, I have to admit this is an excellent supplement to my own book, "The Recorder From Zero, vol. I" especially for the high quality CD which includes acoustic (i.e. non-synthsized) music perfomance and accompaniments for most of the pieces in the book in many different styles. Throw in the recorder and this is really an incredible deal. It's marketed towards children but any adult would also have fun using these materials. I plan to use this book in addition to my own for teaching.

The recorder itself is your standard Yamaha recorder, just like the one I had as a kid, but with a prettier emblem on it. The sound is pretty good, definitely good enough to tell how you're playing. If you're serious about playing the recorder, though, you'll want to move up eventually. Can't beat this price, though!

I already retained most of the basics from my childhood, but the tunes in this book are fantastic. I made sure to learn them all by heart to warm up, and I even play them just for the heck of it when I want a pleasant melody to hear. I think they're better than you'll find in most 'learn-to-play' books.

I love this recorder. Yamaha is a good brand and all teachers in music should own one.

I'm an adult, and I really enjoyed this introduction to the recorder. It slowly introduced notes and concepts in clear language. And the practice songs have interesting melodies - mostly old folk songs. I highly recommend it.
