5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised
If you are like me and only have one optical input into your receiver, and need more, this is the way to go. I notice no great loss of sound quality, the switch is very easy to use, and comes with the mini plug adapters you need to plug into it. Yes, you do have to switch it by hand, but what do you expect for this low price? You obviously need to buy one cable pet...

This item does not work well. Rather than having an input right in the unit, one must use an adapter included with the item. The build quality is very poor and the adapters fall off of the optical cables and if the cable twists signal cuts out.

Yes, you do have to switch it by hand, but what do you expect for this low price? You obviously need to buy one cable pet device you want to plug in, and at least one more cable to go fron the switch to the receiver. No biggie.

I recommend this item.

I bought this unit because I do not have enough optical inputs on my receiver. It accomplished it's purpose for a relatively low price. However you have to get up and manually change the switch for the device that you are using. With my receiver t was quite cumbersome because I also had to change the video device that the recever was assigning to the optical port. After hours and hours of research I also purchased a "copperbox" that also switches the video with the audio. This is a more expensive option but for my purposes it was worth the extra money. I am still going to use the Recoton product for an input that the Video does not pass through the receiver.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, January 28, 2011

The adapters make this product non-functional for me. With some wiggling I could get sound to flow through the device, but cables were too loose to maintain the signal if it were bumped or even after switching to another input. If the inputs were to simply take the full size optical plug, I suspect this device would work fine (in fact several other options seem to do just that and I'll probably order one of those, next).

The adapters don't snap very tight, either. They pop off of the cables easily and made it very hard to debug the problem. Just disappointing!

this unit is excellent when you have many Opital output to use and you do not have enough of them in your home theater receiver. The sound that comes out of it is as if the optical cable is coming out of the receiver, so you are not missing anything from the 5.1 sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Perfectly., January 7, 2011

I am not really sure why people are having problems with adapters falling off / weak signal. I have a 15ft optical cable from the output and all works well. Maybe the other reviewers have inferior equipment as source? Also, most Apple Mac's support optical thru the 3.5mm headphone jack (Surprise!) so plugging this thing in with the native plug on either end of your cable is super convenient.

This couldn't be a simpler approach to a switch for a dolby digital signal, and it works very well. Only complaint is the bizarre adapters required for normal size cables, which are included...

It is sturdy and easy to use. The adapters it comes with do not work with every SPDIF cable though. Not a big deal in the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Functional if Clunky, October 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Recoton Digital Audio Selector Switch (Electronics)
I've got a PS3, PS2 and Xbox 360 hooked up to this and it functions as advertised. The "Clunk" you'll hear when selecting an input is a little worrying as it sounds almost as if it's tearing itself apart, but it's still going strong. The first one I bought did have a manufacturing error, but the company I got it from replaced it for free, no questions asked!
