4.0 out of 5 stars Good value
I'm using this pre-amp to connect a turntable to a computer for burning records to CD. The sound is decent especially for the price. (Putting an equalizer between the pre-amp and the computer really helps to sound quality of those old records.)

To eliminate the AC hum make sure that you have a good ground connection (connect it to the chassis of something with a 3-prong...

4.0 out of 5 stars Vinyl is King, February 11, 2004

It's great to be listening to my old vinyl after 20 years. One channel of the preamp quit working once but I unplugged the power for a couple of days and it worked again.

I bought this product about four years ago and have never had a problem with it. It boosts the signal from my record player to my shelf stereo with no problems at all. The other reviewer must have gotten a dud.

I have had this product for 3 years and have had no problems whatsoever! Recording music to my computer hard drive from my stereo using my RECOTON STEREO PRE-AMPLIFIER is a snap.

5.0 out of 5 stars The old record player - back in service, March 11, 2007
This review is from: Recoton SP-2 Stereo Phonograph Preamplifier (Electronics)
This product allowed me to connect my old turntable to a new amplifier - as you know if you are reading this, they don't make the 'phono' inputs on amps any more. Just plug it into AUX you say! Sorry - you need a device to amplify the turntable output to line level as well as to process it to the correct standard. This device does this - it is powered (requires an AC outlet) so no worries about batteries. It is light and unobtrusive - once you get it connected you never need think of it again. You might get a hum, if you do not have a ground terminal to connect to the thin wire coming out of your turntable. They don't put those on the amplifiers any more either. I found that if I connected the ground wire to the red audio input jack on this pre-amp that the hum completely disappeared. I just slipped it inside the red RCA cable when I pushed it onto the preamp, and it's a very snug pressure fit. It's not going to fall out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Preamps are becoming a must-have item if you own a turntable these days..., August 25, 2006

This review is from: Recoton SP-2 Stereo Phonograph Preamplifier (Electronics)
these preamps are pure gold, and are about as hard to find as pure gold these days too. back in the good old days (and i'm not that old), stereos came with a jack specifically for record players, and the jack had a preamp built in. but those are becoming more & more rare, which is why these preamps are necessary. most electronics retailers don't carry them anymore, either, which is a real tragedy. i went to radio shack, frys & magnolia audio (the only electronics stores in my area) and none of them carried turntable preamps (or hardly any turntable accessories at all, for that matter). radio shack said that i could order the preamp from their website, to the tune of $50. fortunately i did a google search and found the exact same item here on amazon for $20. basically, if you want to run a turntable through your home stereo or computer, you need this preamp. and this recoton one is a good product. i own 2 of them now, and they've never conked out or failed me in any way.

I just bought this to use on an old turntable with my new stereo equipment. I only have 3 records so it didn't make sense to spend a lot of money. I haven't used it a whole lot but the times that I have it has worked very well. Its to bad that my records aren't in great condition to fully use the quality.

The preamp is small enough to hide in the cobweb of connections yet still

perform beautifully in converting my LPs to CDs.

I bought this thing to connect my old Technics turntable to my component CD Recorder. While it works as advertised, the assembly was a bit shoddy - to wit: The guts (including both sets of RCA connector jacks) were inadequately secured to the body shell - making connection a very dicey matter. With some perseverance and a pair of needle nosed pliers, I was able to get things connected, but a lot of swearing was involved in the process. If any children or pets had been nearby, they would probably have been scarred for life.

Once the connections were made, the unit operated as it was intended.
