...its a really great CD! i get flack from others who come into my office and see "Great White" CDs around, but I've always said 'show me ANY other band out today that plays just good ol' fashion rock and roll, like it should be played'. The list they usually give is small. Thus, when GW put out an album of covers (which usually goes over poorly anywhere except Japan it seems), many might see it as the last nail in their coffin. Well, this is one heavy-hitting nail! The covers seem to be carefully chosen to include many different genre's of rock and roll: Stone's cover-medley, 2 Paul Roger's tracks (from his days in Free and Bad Co.), and my favorite, a cover of the Cult's 'Love Removal Machine' played BETTER than I've ever heard!!! Its not the first time a CD of covers was released by GW: a show of Led Zeppelin covers (recorded live, I believe) was issued a little while back, and it seems to hit just as hard and cool as this one. Overall, this CD rocks! Dig on the guitar solo in the Cult cover...he out-does Duffy by a mile!

Keep up the great work, guys!! We love it!

Say what one will, this is a great CD

4.0 out of 5 stars Recover - Great Demo, OK Album, March 3, 2002

This collection was recorded live to two-track in 1989. I don't think this was ever meant for public consumption, and was most likely recorded so the band's label could decide which songs GW should record properly and include on their albums. (Almost every GW album has at least one "cover" song.) There are at least four songs that GW recorded on later albums or B-sides -- in all cases the next version is much more polished. This is a must-have for serious GW fans, but the sound quality and overall lack of production make this an album to be avoided by the casual fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of their best!!, October 7, 2002

While some may not like the 2 track sound on this album, I have to give an excellent review. I think this album sounds better than most of their releases. All the songs sound as good or better than the oringinals. I could have done without the Stones cover, as I can't stand them to begin with, but overall an excellent album. I consider this album to be a must have, whether a casual fan, or a hard core fan like me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great White salutes their roots, April 9, 2010
This review is from: Recover (Audio CD)
Great White has always had a knack for recording great cover songs, from the early days covering the Angels to their massive hit version of Ian Hunter's "Once Bitten Twice Shy" to their Great Zeppelin: Tribute To Led Zeppelin live set covering Led Zeppelin classics. So it makes perfect sense that the band would devote a whole disc to paying tribute to their favorite songs.

Originally released in 2002, Recover features the following 12 cover songs:

1. Love Removal Machine (the Cult) - It makes sense that they'd pick something off of Electric, the Cult album closest to Great White's own sound.
2. Again and Again (Status Quo) - Sadly, I haven't heard the original version.
3. Ready for Love (Bad Company) - Great White's version is every bit as soulful as you'd expect.
4. B!tches & Other Women (Rolling Stones) - It sounds like the band was really having fun doing this one.
5. Tangled up in Blue (Bob Dylan) - Wow, Jack Russell does a pretty good Dylan.
6. Burning House of Love (X) - Great White is covering X??? Now that's diversity for you! They rock the song too.
7. Ain't No Way To Treat a Lady (Helen Reddy) - This is the album's low point, and Russell's performance is embarrassing.
8. Sin City (AC/DC) - This is a great rock song that totally picks up the mood of the disc.
9. No Matter What (Badfinger) - Sorry, but I hate Badfinger covers. When anyone other than Badfinger does this song, it just sounds sterilized and overly poppy.
10. Fire and Water (Free) - Another good choice for Great White's sound. Jack Russell was born to cover Paul Rodgers.
11. Down at the Doctor's (Dr. Feelgood) - I hadn't heard this one before, but it's a great barroom boogie kind of song.
12. Lady Love (Robin Trower) - Good closer, and a good fit for Great White.

Honestly, this collection is really only going to appeal to die-hard Great White fans, and they certainly don't need me telling them to pick up a Great White release! Get it, turn it up, and enjoy these old school songs with a Great White spin.
