5.0 out of 5 stars Grief for a child IS unbearable -- but we bear it, June 30, 2002
RECOVERING FROM THE LOSS OF A CHILD contains a list of do's and don'ts for helping bereaved parents. Donnelly says to let your caring and concern show, be available, say you're sorry about what happened, allow them to express their grief, encourage them to be patient with themselves, allow them to talk about the child, give special attention to bewildered siblings, reassure them that they did all they could, and talk about the endearing qualities of the child.

Don't point out that the parents have other children (no child can take the place of another). Don't say they should be grateful. Don't avoid mentioning the child's name. Don't avoid them because you're uncomfortable or feel helpless.

If you're wondering what to do -- this book will spell it out for you. It's another truly useful book for people who want to help someone they care about through the pain of grief.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is a real depictation on how to move forward, November 16, 1999
By A Customer
I mailed this book to a close friend of mine who recently lost his 18 year old son in a tragic way. I knew I had no words that could comfort him in this time of sorrow so I sent this book. I am glad I did. He said he is reading it and is getting alot out of it.
