Really fun read, and helpful too!,
This review is from: The Recovering Sorority Girls' Guide to a Year's Worth of Perfect Parties (Paperback)
I decided to pick up a copy of The Recovering Sorority Girls' Guide To A Year's Worth of Perfect Parties. I have to say, any thoughts I had that the word "Recovering" meant that sorority life was something they were trying to get over went away after reading the first page. These girls have done a terrific job! This book offers excellent party planning advice while being one of the funniest books I've ever read. I'm serious, my sides hurt from laughing so hard. The writers have a wonderful sense of humor which they wonderfully thread into their party plans.
All of the parties look like something that I could actually pull-off and have fun doing it. I'm especially fond of the "End of Summer Pool Party." Probably due to my being sick of winter! I love having friends over during the summer, and since we have a pool, I fully intend to try their pool party suggestions! I scored a perfect 21 on the party quiz that is at the end of the pool party chapter. :-) If you see this book in the store, buy it! I loved it, and I think every sorority girl (and non sorority girl) will love it too!

I loved the ideas in this book! Easy to follow plans for themes, menus, and decorations. Also, there are wonderful "what to do and what not to do's" in the book! And all these parties have been tested! I can't wait to try the pool party, it makes waiting for the end of the summer - well, fun! And even if you have never been in a sorority, no problem, just rush RSG (Recovering Sorority Girls)!!!! Thanks girls for making parties fun again.

Great party ideas; very funny book.,

I did not know that a book about entertaining could be so entertaining!! Starting with New Year's, the authors have hit upon almost every party theme idea. They have some very good recipes - I have flagged some to try myself - and offer a very helpful timeline as well as decoration, music, and beverage suggestions. They throw in funny comments and occasionally go off on a rant. I like that they are into electronic invites, and they stress that you don't have to spend days preparing food.
You don't have to be a sorority gal to enjoy this book, the party suggestions apply whatever your background happens to be. And, like the authors say, the book is fun.

As a young professional who enjoys entertaining & misses all of her friends being together all the time, this is a great book! It is full of creative ways to have a great time without digging deep into your pockets. The book is light hearted and can easily be used by anyone, but cherished by the true sorority girls!

I was in a sorority as a collegiate and we threw and attended some great parties in my day. As a result, I knew how to throw a great party and keep with a theme, but had some trouble coming up with ice breakers that weren't cheesy but still managed to help my guests mingle and get to know each other. Thanks to Morgan and Brooksie, I have some great ones now! I especially loved their ideas for the New Year's Martini bash (Happy New Martini!).

Not only did this book take the stress out of planning any party, but it made me laugh! You can read this for fun, or for planning your latest shindig. I found that the recipes highlighted for the various parties can be mixed and matched for any occasion. Who knew I could throw a party for the Kentucky Derby? The party plans outlined in the book are easy to follow, use easy to find ingredients, and are not expensive to create. Also, the additional commentary, lists and suggestions are helpful in preparation for the party as well as making you laugh! I highly recommend this book for anyone, sorority and non-sorority girls (& guys!) alike!

I've never been a big fan of throwing one of those "cool," "chic" parties- I always thought it was too much work... but WOW have these girls made it easy... and fun!! It looks like even a non-sorority "Recovering Sorority Girl" can handle this!!

Wow. And, thought "growing up" and writing a book on how to create pockets of joy every single day was extending my college giddiness as far as one possibly could!
As the President of Ohio University's Alpha Xi Delta Chapter ('84), I wholeheartedly applaud everything about this book. My book helps women to realize that every day can be a celebration, and Deandra Brooks' book tells them how to do it with style. Perfect. |
