Book Description

March 1, 2011
Recovery by Alexandrea Weis is the second novel in the wildly sexy series featuring the enigmatic Nicci Beauvoir. A thrilling read, this character-driven book boasts a whodunit mystery, sultry seductions, and an unforgettable cliffhanging twist. Once a darling of New Orleans society, Nicci pens a novel about her departed love, the artist David Alexander. While promoting her book in the Big Apple, she’s approached by David’s former boss, Simon La Roy, who has a theory about David’s death that devastates Nicci. She learns David’s murder may be linked to someone from her past. Enter Dallas August, an elite member of Simon’s organization of corporate spies prized for his ruthless ability to get the job done. Playing the part of Nicci’s lover, Dallas returns to Katrina-ravaged New Orleans with her to flush out the killer. But everything is not what is seems in the Big Easy, and soon the couple finds themselves trapped in a psychotic’s twisted game of revenge. As the danger grows, Nicci’s relationship with the handsome spy turns from adversarial to amorous. On the run for their lives, Dallas and Nicci must confront their tormentor before it is too late. It’s a deadly decision that could cost Nicci everything, but it is her only chance for finally revealing the identity of the murderer. Just as the truth behind David’s death is discovered, another more compelling mystery is unearthed. It’s an unexpected turn of events that rocks Nicci’s world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Recovery is more than just a Mystery Thriller! March 22, 2011
Format:Paperback
Recovery being the 2nd in the Nicci Beauvoir series in my opinion is a perfect stand alone book... While I may have missed out on some of Nicci's backstory it did not matter while reading this book!

I thought that Nicci was someone who had weathered not only personal heartbreak well but picked up the pieces of her life and got on with it! While she obviously had some baggage from the devastation in her past she also managed to create the beginnings of a future that promised to be fulfilling as well as productive!

Dallas August is a suave but cold man who seems very together on the surface but Nicci soon finds out the persona he presents to the world hides a passionate and caring individual who soon unlocks her own passion that has lain dormant for the past two years after the murder of David Alexander.

Together Nicci and Dallas set out to uncover the truth about who killed David....

This story is filled with scenes of Katrina's horrifying aftermath, the houses and property damaged or totally demolished and also the emotional and physical anguish of all the lives lost due to the storm! What is shown more than anything is the indomitable spirit of a city that may be crippled but it's charm and it 's people will not be vanquished! This carries over to Nicci herself, she is a survivor and in looking for answers about the murderer she is also finding answers about her own self and feeling alive for the first time in 2 years!

I am very glad to have gotten a chance to read this powerful book, it is a mystery thriller that really does thrill the reader with it's drama and the sizzle and heat that Dallas and Nicci turbulent relationship bring to the equation just makes it all that much more fun to read...

For those of us who are fans of New Orleans as a story setting, those of us who love humorous byplay between the main characters and lovers of suspenseful mysteries with romance thrown in this book is a good one to recommend to read...
I look forward to more of author Alexandrea Weis work, especially more from this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars great murder mystery romance novel March 18, 2011
Format:Paperback
Recovery is the second novel in the Nicci Beauvoir series written by Alexandrea Weis, and is a romantic thriller set in post-Katrina New Orleans. Not having read the first book in the series prior to reading Recovery, I was worried that I may not be able to follow along with the characters and events, if they were linked heavily to the first book. I was happy to discover that not only was this a strong book for the series, but also a strong book on it's own, and there was no need for worry.

The characters are readily likeable. Nicci has a great sense of humor despite being heartbroken for so long, but that may be a credit to the eccentric and highly interesting family she came from. Dallas August is the typical romantic lead, a bit troubled and has a wall around his heart, but this character has a mysterious past and a bit of an anger "thing" at times, so he isn't as easy to "mend" as the traditional hero is.

This story has a proper murder mystery within the pages, and one that had me tethered to the pages, anxious to find out who the evil culprit was at the end. It was very well written, and with a nice helping of romance mixed in with the mystery and suspense. The author's use of words were exceptional as well, and the scenes she painted of the French Quarter and the Katrina-ravaged sections had me seeing them as if I were there, and experiencing them for the first time along with Dallas.

Recovery is definitely a book worth reading, and one I would recommend to any lover of mystery and romance.

Alexandrea Weis is an impressive author, who has struck gold once again in her second installment of the Nicci Beauvoir series, a gem that stands alone. It has been two years after David was murdered, Nicci had to pick up the broken pieces to her shattered life, and proceed to move on to a new beginning. Although Nicci was forced to mend her wounds of heartbreak and loss, was she prepared to face the haunting ghosts of her devastating past? I highly recommend this compelling novel to all mystery and thriller lovers, who enjoy high-speed action, combined with romance, and intense suspense. The author painted a colorful portrait of post-Katrina in its horrifying aftermath, a nail-biting story of murder, sizzling romance, mixed with humor and suspense that has you on the edge of your seat. A city is crippled from a storm, an evil culprit is on the loose, and a deadly decision must be made. The clock is ticking fast and tension builds as danger is ready to explode in a thrilling story, made for the Movie screen! Will Nicci make the right decision, who is the jealous maniac, and will love blossom between Nicci and Dallas? Does Dallas know who the prime suspect is, where will the showdown take place, who will be the victim, and will justice be served? "RECOVERY" is as dramatic as THE BODYGUARD, as intriguing as NO WAY OUT, and as chilling as THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE.
