5.0 out of 5 stars The best Step-By-Step Recovery Book.
Before this I have never read anything that made me feel better in my recovery. I had gone to several meetings and read other materials as well as conferred with my Doctors' and therapist. Several questions I had but couldn't quite ask were answered in this book. As well as things I was feeling, and scared about, but wasn't able to put words to. It helped me to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Simplistic and much too focused on 12 step
I bought this book ten years ago, when I first quit drinking. While it does contain some useful information, it is written in an overly simplistic, almost juvenile style that I found extremely annoying. Also, although there is a brief section on different treatment alternatives, all of the advice in the book assumes that the reader has chosen to go to AA/NA, so it...

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Step-By-Step Recovery Book., June 14, 1999

This review is from: The Recovery Book (Paperback)
Before this I have never read anything that made me feel better in my recovery. I had gone to several meetings and read other materials as well as conferred with my Doctors' and therapist. Several questions I had but couldn't quite ask were answered in this book. As well as things I was feeling, and scared about, but wasn't able to put words to. It helped me to relax, to feel like I was experiencing something other people had been through. I didn't feel "crazy" for the first time in months. It was a great quick reference guide too. It's all set up in easy to read chapters covering everything you need to know about recovering from addictions. It explains specifically steps to go through the detox process from every drug or alchohol, medical advice on how to get help, the whole withdrawal process for each type of addict, and more importantly-the way to get on with your life with your kids, your spouse, your family, your job, and yourself. It doesn't clutter itself up with 99% spiritual talk either. Not that that isn't important, but that comes later, after you get your body back to normal.

This book is the only reference book on alcohol and other addictions put together in one easily understood volume. It should be the book on a readily reached shelf of every therapist. I have used this fine work since it's publication in my work: treatment planning, lectures, individual counselling and diagnosis. James W. West M.D., Betty Ford Center

5.0 out of 5 stars The ony book that ever made a difference, August 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Recovery Book (Paperback)
This book was the catalyst to my sobriety. It succeeded in drawing the truth out where my friends and family had not been able to. Most of all, it made me finally be honest with myself.

Thank you, to the authors. Thank you, thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars contains answers to questions I did not even know I had, January 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Recovery Book (Paperback)
I keep my Recovery book on my bedside stand, right next to my Big Book. The book provides an easy to follow format that details all aspects of alcoholism. Had discovered the book sooner, I might not have clung on to my active alcoholism as long. It was a relief to get home from treatment and have such an informative book to refer to. As I proceed down my path to recovery I look forward to reading the chapters on Stage 2 recovery.

This book helps fill in the empty spaces that people, and their families face before, durring, and after treatment. It is a GOOD book to keep handy for reference. I found in my own personal recovery this book, the Big Book, and the Twelve and Twelve of Great importance to my sobority.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Resource, August 12, 2006
This review is from: The Recovery Book (Paperback)
This is an incredible book that I bought in my early recovery and it has been with me along the journey and will stay with me for the continuance of my sober path. Its a great resource for those getting sober, staying sober, and clinicians who work in the field of addictions. I highly recommend that you grab a copy and keep it close to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A complete discussion, February 24, 2007
This review is from: The Recovery Book (Paperback)
This book was extremely helpful in understanding addiction (alcohol & drug), the alternatives to recovery, and what the recovering alcoholic/addict will experience through the various phases of recovery. It offered a broad range of topics, covering all aspects of addiction and recovery. While it strongly focused on AA/NA/etc, it recognized that not all are helped by that recovery method and discussed alternatives. Also helpful was the section for family/friends of the alcoholic/addict to guide them through their role in the recovery process. Throughout the book are specific questions posed by the alcoholic/addict/family member, which often "cut to the chase" of the fears and uncertainties; the responses are thorough, and while recognizing the underlying fear, they are straightforward and continually guide the reader to taking the road to recovery. Bottom line: a very readable, thorough, in-depth and straightforward guide to addiction and the recovery process.

This review is from: The Recovery Book (Paperback)
I have been in recovery for thirty-two years. Professionally I work with addicts and alcoholics daily. The Recovery book is "everything you wanted to know and didn't know who to ask, plus some answers you didn't even know the questions" Dr. Al Mooney is one of the most knowable people in the field of addiction. The book also answers many questions for employers, family and friends. I recomend it often. Chris Fajardo MS,MAC,NCACII Director of Programs The Healing Place Louisville Kentucky
