An Absolute Must For All Who Are Affected By Cults,
This review is from: Recovery from Cults: Help for Victims of Psychological and Spiritual Abuse (Paperback)
This was one of the first books I read after 9 years in a cult, too bad I read it more than a year and a half after I quit (I wish I would`ve found this earlier, right after I left the group I was in). I recommend this to all ex-members of cults, as well as anyone interested in or affected by them; and ESPECIALLY anyone in any group (religious or otherwise) who questions the nature of your group, and has thoughts of leaving. This book is informative, affirmative, and great support for ex-members and their families when you feel like no one else understands what you`ve been through.

This booked helped me to leave Alcoholics Anonymous,

This review is from: Recovery from Cults: Help for Victims of Psychological and Spiritual Abuse (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book with plenty of information to help the person leaving a high-control group or cult. The stages of recovery are discussed so the exiting member knows what kind of "head trips" to expect during the mental detox of cult involvement. I highly recommend it.

Recovery From Cults,

This review is from: Recovery from Cults: Help for Victims of Psychological and Spiritual Abuse (Paperback)
I am in the middle of this book right now. It is mostly about the kind of cults that kid nap people or that convince them to leave home. Like the Moonies and the T.M. and many others. If you are looking for a book about the cult next door this might not be the book for you. There is NO mention of Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses or Christian Scientist. However, as a recovering Mormon I still found a lot of information that I could relate to. The author really does know what it feels like for someone to leave a cult or a controlled environment. He points out the confusion of thinking to your self "Am I a victim of this cult or am I an agent of the Devil because I left?" I can relate to this book. But it is a really heavy read. This book is worth reading.

This book is full of vital information about cults and cult mind control. A must-read for cult survivors. One of the best books on the topic available for the general public.

This is not an easy read especially for anyone whom has just been accosted by the occult or has just left a cult. The book is edited by Micheal D. Langone yet has several other authors as well. For those who have recent trauma coupled with concentration difficulties, one will not be able to understand concepts as clearly. However, the book gives vital information such as anything can be "cult" when the organization, church, business, home life, therapy, mantra, daycare center etc. is rooted in mind control, which begins with deception, dependency then dread. The bottom line is the occult can happen anywhere and it is not all about the cliche of "horns and hooves" yet is inherently evil.

Useful in determining what a cult is,
By A Customer
This review is from: Recovery from Cults: Help for Victims of Psychological and Spiritual Abuse (Paperback)
Whereas Alcoholics Anonymous does not have leaders who promote their personal programs nor does it cause psychological harm, I was involved in a cult with an extremely controlling and harmful leader. The cult I was involved in fits all the criteria that Dr. Langone describes in this book.

I just couldn't get into it, and I did try. It didn't relate to anything I was familiar with.
I thought I ordered "Combatting Cult Mind Control" by Steven Hassan. I had read the book before and even gave it to a friend. |
